Officer – QA Operations

Location: India – Jhagadia

Primary Objective:

Responsible for managing the quality assurance function at the third-party packing station, overseeing quality and food safety programs, implementing Abbott quality and compliance requirements at the packing station, and communicating all quality-related issues to the primary site. Ensure incoming packing materials and outgoing finished products meet quality standards.

Major Responsibilities:

  • Ensure product packing aligns with quality requirements and complies with AN, statutory, and regulatory standards at the secondary packing station.
  • Establish incoming quality acceptance plans and oversee batch release of finished products.
  • Maintain interpersonal relationships with colleagues across different site functions.
  • Make decisions on in-process quality status of finished products, materials, equipment, manufacturing areas, warehouses, factory premises, and dispatch vehicles.
  • Provide feedback and solutions within the QA team and to internal customers.
  • Conduct in-depth RCA for complex Quality & Hygiene/GMP issues, offering feasible solutions at the shop floor.
  • Collect packing material per sampling plan, ensure timely analysis and release via SAP.
  • Communicate deviations to supervisors and stakeholders to enable timely corrective actions.
  • Actively participate in troubleshooting and ensuring high-quality output through precise measurements.
  • Coordinate label changes to ensure current and approved labels are applied.
  • Implement GMP, GHK, GDP, and pest control plans effectively, driving continuous improvement.
  • Perform routine internal audits and identify improvement opportunities.
  • Develop and present Quality Matrix during monthly or quarterly quality management reviews.

Safety and Compliance Responsibilities:

  • Ensure self and team members consistently follow all EHS rules and procedures.
  • Promptly report any EHS incidents or near misses (unsafe acts and conditions).
  • Attend required safety training and medical surveillance programs.
  • Ensure team members wear necessary PPE.
  • Take a leadership role in identifying team members’ adherence to procedures.
  • Complete required BBS observations.
  • Achieve zero injuries through safe actions and adherence to guidelines.
  • Identify opportunities to reduce energy and water use, and waste generation.

Education:

  • Postgraduate in Chemistry/Bachelor’s degree in Chemistry/Dairy Chemistry/Food Science with 2–3 years of experience in the food industry, or
  • Graduate in Chemistry/Food Science with 4–5 years of experience in the food industry, or
  • Master’s in a relevant field.

Background:

  • Knowledge of analytical procedures and equipment operation methods.
  • Familiarity with Quality Management Systems and FSSC 22000 requirements.
  • Experience with QA checks for finished and in-process products.
  • Understanding safety aspects of QA labs and GMP requirements in food processing.
  • Hands-on experience with GLP, GHP, GDP, and cGMP practices.

Accountability & Scope:

  • Release finished product quality for TPM locations.
  • Develop SOPs for TPM to determine quality expectations.
  • Review TPM quality performance based on set KPIs and monthly reports.
  • Support TPM in quality performance improvement and incident investigations, including CAPA and market complaints.
  • Review systems at TPM sites such as change controls, deviations, pest management, audits, and trends.
  • Conduct packaging design trials and update PPS with R&D and manufacturing teams.
  • Possess sound knowledge of FSSAI, Legal Metrology Act, and related regulations.
  • Proficient in SAP Quality modules.
  • Ensure compliance with FSSAI and ISO 22000 requirements.
  • Monitor site-wide compliance and provide timely MIS to meet internal and external standards.
  • Perform gap analysis for corporate, site policies, and regulatory requirements, developing action plans to mitigate risks.
  • Maintain site records management systems, ensuring retention and retrieval.
  • Participate in audits and follow up on action plans.
  • Prioritize activities based on risk assessment of process equipment, utilities, and facilities.
  • Ensure governance for vendors associated with site compliance.
  • Ensure GMP and food safety compliance as per FSSC 22000 and FSSAI requirements at TPM site.
  • Develop and maintain required quality system documents for new product introductions.

Accountability:

  • Responsible for sampling, analyzing, and releasing packing materials as per plan.
  • Provide packing materials to the Micro Lab for analysis within Abbott Nutrition Supply Chain, Jhagadia.
