Visvesvaraya National Institute of Technology, Nagpur is one of the thirty National Institutes of Technology in the country. The Govt. of India conferred on the Institute, the Deemed to be University status (under University Grants Commission Act, 1956 (3 of 1956)) with effect from 26th June 2002. Subsequently, the Central Govt. by Act of Parliament (National Institutes of Technology Act, 2007 (29 of 2007)) declared VNIT Nagpur as an Institute of National Importance along with all other NITs. It’s vision is to contribute effectively to the national endeavour of producing quality human resource of world class standard by developing a sustainable technical education system to meet the changing technological needs of the Country incorporating relevant social concerns and to build an environment to create and propogate innovative technologies for the economic development of the Nation.

Qualifications:
Faculty members below the age of 67 years, superannuating from service in NITs and IITs at the level of Professor can be inducted by the Board as Professor Emeritus for a maximum period of 3 years (with yearly contract). This provision is limited to faculty with suitable externally sponsored projects or comparable activities
