The Product Research and Development (PRD) organization focuses on developing and delivering quality medicines, working on insulins, small molecules, monoclonal antibodies, novel therapeutic proteins, peptides, oligonucleotide therapies, and gene therapy systems. This multidisciplinary team collaborates with therapeutic business units and manufacturing to bring Lilly’s clinical portfolio to patients globally.

’s academic and professional landscape to support and advance Lilly’s capabilities. The LCCI PRD team works closely with the PRD team in Indianapolis to enable Lilly’s portfolio delivery.Education Requirements
- Ph.D. in Organic Chemistry or MS with 10+ years of relevant experience
- 0-5 years of experience in a biotechnology/pharmaceutical company or academia
Position Requirements
- Possess deep technical expertise and training in modern synthetic chemistry, using this knowledge to challenge the status quo and solve critical scientific problems in a dynamic environment
- Demonstrated track record of novel contributions to chemical design and mechanism-based problem solving for project goals, such as complex molecule synthesis and methodology development
- Experience with retrosynthetic tools (e.g., Synthia, SciFinder) for route design and an understanding of basic commercialization requirements
- Embrace and celebrate diversity, leveraging unique backgrounds to offer new ideas and solutions for a multidisciplinary team
- Strong communication (oral, written), organizational, and leadership skills
- Agility to learn across modalities (small molecule, peptide, and oligonucleotide); develop synthetic routes using modern technologies, including continuous processing, automated reaction screening, and computational chemistry
- Contribute to commercial manufacturing strategy to create robust chemical processes suitable for large-scale manufacturing
- Engage externally via presentations and publications; partner to develop and incorporate chemistry innovations into the portfolio of assets
- Ability to understand and interpret spectroscopic (NMR, IR) and chromatographic (LC) data
Roles and Responsibilities
- Conduct digital assessments of emerging small molecule assets in early phase chemistry and tolerability supplies for conjugates/peptides/oligos
- Perform retrosynthetic evaluations of emerging assets and create work plans to guide proof of concept and reduction-to-practice studies
- Maintain an internal Synthetic Route Database
- Utilize software packages (e.g., Mirabilis) for impurity purge prediction and control strategy documentation
- Optimize synthesis routes with digital technologies in close collaboration with process and computational chemists and data scientists
- Partner with computational and data scientists to leverage the latest technology for synthesis route design advancements
