The R&D Informatics group at Excelra leverages a variety of technology solutions to enable and/or scale the curation, harmonization, engineering, and analysis of data. We help our partners integrate data and analytics across chemistry, omics, clinical trials, and RWE to uncover novel insights and opportunities. You will help the R&D Informatics group in this critical and high growth role at Excelra.

Job Summary

We are seeking an experienced R&D Informatics / R&D IT expert with a deep understanding of life

sciences AND software engineering, and a highly innovative mindset to join our dynamic and fast-growing team. The successful candidate will be part of the cross-functional Customer Solutioning team and will play a critical role in driving sales and solutioning by understanding client pain points, thinking like the customer, and crafting technical solutions to solve customer problems. This individual will collaborate closely with our clients and our sales and delivery teams to create innovative solutions, deliver impactful pitches, and identify opportunities for incubation, up-selling, and cross-selling.

Key Roles and Responsibilities:

  • Work with Sales to engage with clients and understand the client’s pain points, needs, and requirements in the life sciences R&D domain, particularly in drug discovery and development.
  • Leverage expertise in life sciences and software engineering, and collaborate with the Sales and Delivery teams to create technical solution concepts that address client needs.
  • Work closely with delivery teams to convert solution concepts into detailed proposals and pitches, ensuring alignment with client requirements and our capabilities.
  • Present proposals and pitches to clients, demonstrating the value of our solutions in addressing their needs and driving business growth.
  • Identify opportunities to incubate, up-sell, and cross-sell on existing projects, ensuring continuous growth and expansion of our client relationships.
  • Collaborate with other Solutioning team members to share knowledge and expertise, fostering a strong and cohesive team environment.
  • As Subject Matter Expert (SME) stay current with industry trends, emerging technologies, and scientific advancements to ensure that our solutions remain competitive and relevant.

REQUIRED SKILLS:

  • Experience in pre-sales, solutioning, or a similar role, with a track record of developing and presenting compelling proposals and pitches that have resulted in successful sales. Knowledge of sales methodologies and strategies is beneficial.
  • Understanding of business concepts, processes, and value drivers in the biotech/pharma industry. Able to grasp/articulate how technical solutions can drive business benefits and value for the client.
  • Proven ability to build and maintain strong relationships with clients at various levels, from technical staff to executives. Experience in managing client expectations and ensuring client satisfaction.
  • Cross-functional Collaboration: Ability to work effectively with different teams within the organization (e.g., delivery, product, marketing) to ensure alignment and coordination in the sales process.

DESIRABLE SKILLS:

  • Strategic Thinking: Capacity to understand the broader business context from a customer’s viewpoint including competitive landscape, industry trends, and strategic opportunities. Ability to align technical solutions with strategic business objectives to ensure Excelra remains ahead of competitors.
  • Understanding of Regulatory Compliance: Familiarity with regulations impacting the life sciences industry (FDA, EMA, etc.) and data privacy regulations (GDPR, HIPAA) can be beneficial in ensuring proposed solutions are compliant.

Scientific Qualifications:

  • Advanced degree (Ph.D. or Master’s) in a life sciences field such as Biology, Genetics, Bioinformatics, Chemistry, Chemical Biology, Structural Biology, Biophysics, or a closely related field. A combined degree with Computer Science would be a plus.
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in the life sciences R&D domain, preferably within a biotechnology or pharmaceutical industry or life science technology setting. Direct experience in drug discovery and development is highly desirable.
  • Knowledge of the principles and techniques of biomedical data curation, including data excerption, data structuring, and systematic literature review.
  • Experience with scientific databases and platforms, bioinformatics analyses, and an understanding of how these can support and accelerate life science R&D. Familiarity with public and proprietary databases in the life sciences is a plus.

Technology Qualifications:

  • Strong understanding of UI frameworks, Technologies and tools to build Web applications.
  • Strong expertise in data management principles and technologies, such as SQL and NoSQL databases, data warehousing, and ETL processes. Good knowledge of big data technologies like Hadoop, Spark, and related ecosystems.
  • Strong understanding of DevOps principles and tools, including continuous integration/continuous deployment (CI/CD), infrastructure as code (IAC), and container technologies (Docker, Kubernetes). Experience with specific DevOps tools like Jenkins, Git, Ansible, and Terraform is beneficial.
  • Expertise in cloud computing and cloud operations (CloudOps), with strong understanding of platforms such as AWS, GCP, or Azure.
  • Understanding of data security and privacy principles, including relevant regulations like GXP, GDPR and HIPAA, and their implications for data management in life sciences.
