The Graduate Programme at TIFR is classified into the following Subjects – Biology, Chemistry, Computer & Systems Science (including Communications and Machine Learning), Mathematics, Physics and Science Education. It is conducted at the Mumbai campus and various National Centres of TIFR.

Eligibility:

Candidates in the final year

of their qualifying degree can also apply.

For Ph.D.: Masters in Basic Science (M.Sc. Physics/ Chemistry/ Mathematics/ any branch of Biology) or any professional Master’s Degree (M.Pharma./M.Tech.), or a > 4-year degree program (e.g. MBBS, BDS). Students

holding an M.Sc. degree in a non-Biology-allied discipline such as Chemistry / Physics / Mathematics / Computer Science, and who wish to obtain an M.Sc. in Biology, will be offered the option of enrolling in the I-Ph.D. programme at the time of joining.

For I-Ph. D./ M.Sc.: Bachelors in any type of Basic Science Chemistry OR any type of 4-year degree programme that awards a “Bachelor’s degree” including B.Tech., B.E., B.V.Sc., B.Pharma. (4-year course).

Fellowship

Ph.D. Students receive a monthly fellowship of Rs 31,000/- (+ hostel accommodation OR HRA as applicable) enhanced to Rs 35,000/- after registration.

I-Ph.D. & I-Ph.D. with M.Sc. exit Students receive a monthly fellowship of Rs 21,000/- for the first year. At the end of the first year, upon satisfactory performance, the fellowship is enhanced to Rs 31,000/- per month (further raised to Rs 35,000/- after registration for Ph.D.).

Application Procedure for TIFR GS2023:

Before you choose the Ph.D. or Integrated Ph.D. program in the basic registration form, please carefully review the eligibility criteria. Click here to go to the page.

Ensure that you have typed your email ID correctly in the basic registration form. An SMS is sent on the mobile number and an email is sent after completion of the basic registration wherein login credentials are given to complete the form. Please check your SPAM folder, if you do not find the email in your inbox.

It is recommended that for registration/submitting of applications students use a desktop/laptop as some links may not be visible on mobile browsers.

Please note that details once given in the basic registration (name, date of birth, mobile number, email id, SSC details, subject, programme etc.) cannot be modified nor will duplicate registration be allowed by the system.

  • After login, please click the “Go to Application” link on the right-top corner of the page and complete the full application. See the screenshot here. This link may not be visible on mobile browsers. In that case please try and use a laptop/desktop.

Before you start filling up the complete application form make sure you have the following ready with you :

  • Scanned image/electronic copy of your Passport size photograph (preferably a jpg file below 80 kb in size). Applications with personal photos (selfies) or edited photos uploaded will be rejected.
  • Scanned copy of signature (preferably a jpg file below 80 kb in size).
  • If you are applying under the Fee Waiver category, the scanned copy of the recommendation letter from the Principal/HOD of your college.
  • If you are applying under the disability category, you will need to upload a scanned copy of the disability certificate.
  • Check all the details before clicking the submit button.

You may take a print of your application after successful registration or save the same as a pdf file.

Applicants paying the application fee online will be directed to the payment gateway. Follow the instructions carefully and complete the payment process. If the transaction is not completed due to technical reasons, you may login to your account and check the application/payment status. After successful completion of the transaction, please login to your account and check the payment status. If the payment is not complete, you may attempt paying online again.

Normally, online payments are received within 2 working days and the system sends an auto email acknowledging the payment. If your transaction has been successful and your account has been debited and you do not receive the acknowledgement email within 2 working days, nor your payment status is updated in your account, you may write to [email protected].

Male Candidates: Rs 1000/-
Female Candidates: Rs 500/-
Others: Rs 500/-

Application fees can only be paid ONLINE through Internet Banking/Debit Card/Credit Card/ UPI or other modes as available on our payment gateway.

Online Payment:

After the online payment transaction is successful, please login into your account on the application portal by using your Application Sequence Number and password you set as your user id and check the payment status of your application. Normally, online payments are received within 2 working days and the system sends an auto email acknowledging the payment. If your transaction has been successful and your account has been debited and you do not receive the acknowledgement email within 2 working days, or your payment status is updated in the application portal, you may write to [email protected].

Instructions for downloading/ printing of Hall tickets will be intimated by email, only after receipt of application fee/approval of fee waiver. The date for downloading hall tickets will be announced once all details for GS2023 are finalised.

Fee Waiver:

A waiver of the application fee on grounds of financial distress may be requested by a letter from the Principal or the Head of the Department justifying the request, or by producing an officially recognized EWS certificate, or for full-time employees, a letter from the current employer on their letterhead together with salary slip (in a single PDF file). Students need to upload these documents with their online application forms.

Timelines & Deadlines for TIFR GS2023:

  • Date of Examination: Sunday, December 11, 2022
  • Online application portal opens: By October 8, 2022
  • Last date for application: October 31, 2022
  • Hall ticket download begins: End-November, 2022
  • Shortlisting for the full application (Biology): By mid-January 2023.
  • Interview Shortlists: By end-February 2023 or per schedule of individual TIFR Centre.
  • Start date for GATE score-based applications in Systems Sciences: February 1, 2023.
  • Last date for GATE score-based applications in Systems Sciences: 2 weeks after the GATE2023 results are declared on their website.
  • Programme start date: August 1, 2023
