Development of stapled peptides to inhibit Ras pathways

A research associate post-doctoral position is available on a Cambridge Cancer Centre funded project to develop stapled peptides as early lead therapeutics for K-Ras driven cancers. The successful candidate will join the groups led by Drs Darerca Owen and Helen Mott  and Prof David Spring . The position will be based in the Department of Biochemistry, University of Cambridge in Central Cambridge.

A major focus of the DO/HRM lab is structure/function relationships in small G protein/effector complexes. These proteins and their complexes are critical moderators of cancer progression and there is an urgent need for targeted therapies against them. The work carried out by this post will concentrate on translating the structural and thermodynamic knowledge generated in the DO/HRM lab into early lead therapeutic peptides. The post will work jointly with the DRS lab to design and utilize novel, bespoke peptide staples for this project.

Candidates should have a strong background in protein expression and purification, biophysical techniques (e.g. ITC, NMR and CD spectroscopy) and organic synthesis, including peptide chemistry. Good communication and organizational skills and the ability to manage several tasks would be strong advantages. Candidates will hold a PhD, ideally

in Biochemistry, Synthetic Organic Chemistry, Chemical Biology or a related subject.

Fixed-term: The funds for this post are available for 1 year in the first instance.
