Core Purpose of the Role:

The individual in this role will conduct reactions and deliver final compounds with a quick turnaround, fulfilling project and Syngene’s requirements. The candidate should independently resolve chemistry problems and ensure experimental observations are recorded per Electronic Laboratory Notebook (ELN) policies.

Role Accountabilities:

  • Perform synthetic chemistry reactions, including workups and purification by techniques such as column chromatography, crystallization, re-crystallization, preparative TLC, and lab equipment operation
  • Ensure samples generated during synthesis are analyzed, results recorded, and updates provided to the supervisor or group leader, with appropriate packing for shipment
  • Record experimental observations, results, resource usage, and related activities in the laboratory or e-notebook, following guidelines and ensuring timely, safe, and confidential handling
  • Meet Syngene’s productivity targets (# of compounds/month and # of steps/month) while maintaining safety and quality standards
  • Synthesize final compounds efficiently with a faster turnaround time
  • Possess excellent analytical interpretation and purification skills
  • Familiarity with Safety Data Sheets (SDS) for chemicals handled, awareness of emergency response procedures, and proper waste segregation as per EHS norms
  • Follow all EHS and quality system requirements in the workplace, ensuring individual and lab safety
  • Attend mandatory trainings and update training records as trainings are completed
  • Ensure confidentiality at all times

Skills and Capabilities

  • Proficient knowledge of organic synthesis concepts and reaction mechanisms
  • Ability to independently solve synthetic problems
  • Proficiency in purification and analytical interpretation skills
  • Familiarity with relevant apparatus, instruments, and equipment

Education

  • M.Sc. in general or organic chemistry
