General Purpose of Job
The “India T&I team” is part of the Global Technology & Innovation team. The India T&I team is tasked with developing, tweaking, and translating new products and providing excellent technical services to our customers for India Polyurethanes business, with its portfolio of products.
The job holder will be a hands-on application chemist who will provide customer services, troubleshooting, and product tweaking on the current and future portfolio of products, specifically for the Footwear segment.
A unique feature of this role will be the ability to form a bridge between product development, R&D, and sales/marketing teams to identify and offer customer-specific solutions.
As and when required, the job may also demand the networking and transfer of knowledge from the PU local/global innovation and technology community.
Essential Functions and Principal Accountabilities:
- Ensure full compliance with safety, health, and environmental guidelines according to site and company standards in all areas of responsibility, including customer locations, plants, laboratory facilities, and testing equipment.
- Promote safety behavior according to the above guidelines.
- Ensure products run as per the expected standards at customer locations.
- Analyze customer complaints, whether from customer process-related issues or from Huntsman product-related issues, and work closely with both the customer and Huntsman cross-functional teams to find solutions.
- Acquire and utilize detailed technical application expertise within the PU Footwear market sector and propose chemical formulations and technologies for the relevant FW segments.
- Independently fine-tune formulations to meet customer requirements and contribute significantly to the development of novel application techniques in collaboration with the Product and Application Development Team.
- Be an active member of the Footwear Cross-Functional Team.
- Maintain orderly laboratory work and visit reports covering customer trials both in-house and on location.
- Keep abreast of all PU developments within the PU Footwear application area and generate and communicate novel technical ideas.
- Work closely with the sales team to drive New Business Developments (NBD), Innovation deliverables, and budgeted innovation targets.
- Develop strong know-how on local and global technology offerings through internal networking.

- Must be prepared to travel significantly, locally and globally, and work across international boundaries.
Education / Experience:
- Must have an equivalent of a Bachelor’s (B.Sc, B.Tech, or BS) or Master’s (M.Sc., M. Tech, or MS) in Chemistry, Materials Science, Applied Materials, Industrial Chemistry, Polymer Science, or Polymer Engineering.
- A broad base of experience in Applied Chemistry, polymer chemistry, formulation, prototyping, and advanced characterization is necessary.
- Demonstrated expertise in formulation, prototyping, and application developments.
- Techno-commercial expertise.
- 1-5 years of Product & Application Development, R&D, or experience in a technology, techno-market-oriented organization, preferably in the Footwear segment.
- Proven track record of successfully running products, applications, and machine trials at both internal and customer locations.
- Strong skills in handling multiple projects.
- Demonstrated ability to think creatively and strategically when implementing products and solving customer or product-related problems.
- Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to communicate effectively with both technical and non-technical individuals, customers, and cross-functional teams.
- Skilled and experienced user of various IT tools and techniques for efficient design, analysis, and communication processes.
Skills and Knowledge:
- Highly innovative and willing to take initiative to tackle complex technical challenges.
- Able to apply good project management principles to own work and the work of global project teams.
- Good communication skills and fluency in English. Other languages are an asset.
- Good IT skills.
- Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to coach others.
- Willing to travel locally and globally.
