Indian Institute of Technology Gandhinagar (IITGN) invites applications for a Junior Research Fellow (JRF) position in the area of water filtration for a research project funded by National Mission on Himalayan Studies (NMHS).
Job Title: Junior Research Fellow
This position is for the candidate who is willing to work on the development of water filters for the purification of impurities present in water. The selected candidate need to work on synthesizing and analyzing advanced/nanomaterials, designing the water filter, and performance evaluation.
The candidate will frequently use various analytical instruments, such as AFM, SEM, TEM, XRD, Raman spectroscopy, FTIR, DMA, etc. Ultimately, the candidate will demonstrate the performance of filtering material in the field trial. Also, he needs to coordinate with the Co-PI and other researchers for successful completion of project objectives. In addition to performing research responsibilities, the candidate will work on laboratory development, project documentation & presentation, etc.
Eligibility: MTech/Master’s degree in Chemical Engineering or Material Science or Mechanical Engineering or allied branch from a reputed institute with a minimum CGPA of 6.5/10 (or 60% aggregate). OR, Master’s degree (M.Sc.) in Science from allied branches with minimum CGPA of 6.5/10.0 (or 60% aggregate) and NET qualification. Essential qualification/experience will be as per the funding agency’s norms.
Duration: Initial appointment is for 1 year (extendable based on performance and/or funding availability)
Remuneration: Rs 31000.00 per month

- How do you plan to approach the field trial of the filtering material, and what challenges do you anticipate? Answer: To approach the field trial, I plan to carefully design the experiment, considering factors such as the sample size, location, and duration. I will also collaborate with the Co-PI and other researchers to ensure that the trial is conducted efficiently and effectively. One of the challenges that I anticipate is the variability in the quality of the water sources, which may affect the performance of the filtering material.
- Can you tell me about a project you have worked on in the past that is similar to this one, and how did you overcome any challenges you faced? Answer: In the past, I worked on a project involving the development of a nanomaterial-based drug delivery system. One of the challenges we faced was achieving a uniform particle size distribution, which was crucial for the effective delivery of the drug. To overcome this challenge, we employed various characterization techniques, including SEM and TEM, and optimized the synthesis conditions to achieve the desired particle size distribution. We also collaborated with experts in the field to get additional insights and ideas, which helped us achieve our project objectives.
