Job Title: Process Engineer – Cement

Job Location: Chennai, India

Eligbility Criteria:

  • BTech/BE/MTech/ME Degree in Chemical engineering
  • At least 3 -10 years’ experience within the cement industry.
  • Ability to work in a team or individually on multiple concurrent projects.

Department

You will be part of the Process Design, Cement team who are dedicated to implementing sustainable solutions for our customers. By joining this team, you will have the chance to work in an international environment involving different cultures and different challenges.

Purpose of the role

• Identifies and solves complicated technical problems in process design and recommends new guidelines

• Carries out audits, plant visits, customer meetings, supports and participates in commissioning

• Provides technical expertise in understanding customer specific requests analyzing the plant audit data and develops correlations for process design

• Maintains and develops process know how, simulation tools and the standardization

• Cooperates with R&D, PLM, Engineering for development

• Performs and takes responsibility as the regional process technical expert with respect to process design

• Ensures global alignment and act as “implementation ambassador” within regions within their area of responsibility

• Ensures regional differences are documented and agreement on deviations are deliberate and approved

• Have strategy thinking and long term planning. Look for success through the organization and achieve results through the organization

Your responsibilities

Responsibilities and duties include, but are not limited to:

Defines the sizing and configuration rules for the product line and equipment involved. Guide the department in technical decisions.

• Select technology solutions, processes and machines, for global projects

• Perform process design calculations including mass and heat balances

• Work through the project lifecycle, from project inception to commissioning

• Work closely with the sales and execution teams

• Attend customer meetings globally with responsibility for process design, from technical clarifications to contract negotiations

• Ability to perform plant audits and productivity studies, including measuring and getting relevant process data

• Customer meetings, troubleshooting and feasibility studies of cement plants which will require 20-30% of travel time

• Give lectures on process design

• Broad contact network: Project Sales, Products & Upgrades Sales, Customer Services, Commissioning, Proposal, Plant layout, Product engineering and R&D

• Ensure continuous improvement of the existing process design by gathering inputs from site installations and recommending adjustments

• Provide input and take part on developing further our products and processes

• 60-80 travel days a year can be expected

Answer: I stay up-to-date with the latest technologies, processes, and innovations in the cement industry by seeking external inspirations, attending relevant conferences and seminars, networking with industry peers, and collaborating with R&D, PLM, Engineering for development. I apply these learnings to my work by continuously improving the existing process design, providing input and taking part in developing further our products and processes, and leading change wherever it is required.

5. What are some of the challenges you have faced in your previous experience as a Process Engineer in the cement industry, and how did you overcome them?

Answer: Some of the challenges I have faced in my previous experience as a Process Engineer in the cement industry include dealing with equipment breakdowns, optimizing production processes, and managing multiple concurrent projects while maintaining high attention to detail. To overcome these challenges, I worked closely with the sales and execution teams, performed plant audits and productivity studies, provided troubleshooting and feasibility studies of cement plants, and maintained and developed process know-how and simulation tools. Additionally, I prioritized work based on urgency and importance, delegated tasks, and communicated effectively with stakeholders to ensure alignment and achieve results.
