Founded by Professor Achyuta Samanta in 1993 in a two-room rented house, the Kalinga Institute of Industrial Technology started as a vocational education centre with an initial investment of Rs 5000 (100 USD). It took shape as an institution in 1997 with the commencement of degree engineering programme. From scratch, Professor Samanta took KIIT to a position of glory within only a decade and a half through his sheer hard work and immense passion.Professor Samanta lost his father at an early age of four. With a widowed mother and seven siblings, he completed Masters in Chemistry in 1990 with a lot of struggle and joined academics. Nurturing a dream to provide education to all, he approached Late Shri P. K. Bal, an eminent journalist and social activist, to be the President of KIIT Society. As fate would have it, the support was snatched after the untimely death of Shri Bal in 1999. Burdened with huge debts and success hard to come by, Prof. Samanta even contemplated suicide at a point of time. However, his dedication to work and blessings of God, prompted Professor Samanta to carry on and establish KIIT as
