The National Mission for Clean Ganga (NMCG) under the Ministry of Water Resources, River
Development and Ganga Rejuvenation, Government of India has initiated a project
“Biodiversity Conservation and Ganga Rejuvenation” in collaboration with the Wildlife
Institute of India (WII), Dehra Dun. This project aims to prepare a science-based aquatic
species restoration plan for Ganga River by involving multiple stakeholders. This project has
six components viz.(1) Establishment of Ganga Aqualife Conservation Monitoring Centre at
Wildlife Institute of India (WII), Dehra Dun, (2) Planning Aquatic Species Restoration for
Ganga River, (3) Capacity Building of Forest Department and Other Stakeholders,(4)
Establishment of Aquatic Wildlife Rescue and Rehabilitation Centres, (5) Community Based
Conservation Programmes for Species Restoration in Ganga Riverand, (6) Nature
Interpretation and Education for Biodiversity Conservation of Ganga River.These
programmes will be implemented for the duration of three years. The WII requires
motivated and qualified candidates, interested in contributing to the restoration of
biodiversity values of Ganga River under the following three components.

Project Title I : Establishment of Ganga Aqualife Conservation Monitoring Centre

Position 1

Job Title : Project Scientist

  • Work Description : Candidate will implement the objectives of the Ganga Aqualife Conservation Centre
  • Eligiblity : Ph.D. in Wildlife Sciences / Zoology / Life Sciences / Forestry or related subjects with >1 year’ experience in Wildlife Science / conservation, after the submission of Ph.D. thesis.
  • Desired : Expertise in wetland ecology or conservation and sound knowledge on biology of aquatic wildlife. Good management skills.
  • Age Limit : 50 years
  • Salary : Rs 56,000/-

Position 2

Job Title :Project Associate (Ecology)

  • Work Description :Candidate will assist the Project Scientist in implementing the objectives of the Ganga Aqualife Conservation Centre by analyzing available information.
  • Eligiblity : Masters’ degree in Wildlife Sciences / Forestry / Environmental Studies / Botany / Zoology / Life Sciences or related subjects with >3 years’ experience in wildlife science.
  • Desired : Experience in fresh water population and habitat assessment; good analytical skills; good management skills.
  • Age Limit : 45 years

Position 3

Job Title :Project Fellow (Ecology)

  • Work Description :Candidate will assist the Project Scientist and Associate in field ecological research and conservation in Ganga river.
  • Eligiblity : Masters’ degree in Wildlife Sciences / Veterinary science/ Forestry / Environmental Science or Management / Botany / Zoology / Life Sciences or related subjects with > 1 year experience of wildlife science.
  • Desired : Research / conservation experience on aquatic mammals / wetland ecology
  • Age Limit : 40 years

Job Title :Project Fellow (GIS & Remote Sensing)

  • Work Description :Candidate will work on GIS and Remote Sensing component

Job Title :Project Scientist (Rescue and rehabilitation)

  • Work Description :Candidate will coordinate and implement the objectives of the Aquatic Wildlife Rescue and Rehabilitation Centres.
  • Eligiblity : Ph.D. in Wildlife Sciences / Zoology / Life Sciences / Veterinary sciences or related subjects Master Degree in Veterinary Science or related subjects with >2 years of experience in veterinary practice / research / conservation.
  • Desired : Experience in conservation breeding and Zoo management; Handling of emergent situations pertaining to higher aquatic vertebrate fauna
  • Age Limit : 50 years
  • Salary : Rs 36,000/-

Position 2

Job Title :Project Fellow (Ecology)

  • Work Description :Candidate will assist the Project Scientist and Associate in implementation of activities in the Aquatic Wildlife Rescue and Rehabilitation Centres.
  • Eligiblity : Masters degree in Wildlife Sciences / Forestry / Environmental Science or Management / Botany / Zoology / Life Sciences /Veterinary Science or related subjects with >1 years’ experience of research / conservation
  • Desired : Experience in rescue and rehabilitation of freshwater aquatic species
  • Age Limit : 40 years

Recruitment process

(i) Candidates should send their applications in the prescribed proforma (Annexure 2) typed
out on A-4 size paper (210 x 297 mm) accompanied by crossed Indian Postal Order/Bank
Draft of Rs. 500/- (Rupees Five Hundred only) drawn in favour of the Director, Wildlife
Institute of India, payable at Dehra Dun. Fee is non-refundable. The application form can
also be downloaded from the site www.wii.gov.in. Candidates must mention the Project
name, component and position applied for in their applications. Candidates who are
applying for multiple projects and/or positions should send separate applications and fees.

  • Applications should be accompanied by self-attested copies of certificates of age,
    educational qualifications, and experience. Shortlisted candidates will have to produce
    original certificates cited in their applications at the time of written test / interview, without which they will be disqualified.
  • Applications should be sent to the Administrative Officer, Wildlife Institute of India, Chandrabani, Dehra Dun – 248 002 (Uttarakhand) so as to reach on or before 30th July, 2016 by 17:00 hours.
  • Applications from abroad and from those in the Andaman & Nicobar Islands, Lakshadweep, North Eastern Region, Ladakh region of the Jammu & Kashmir State, Sikkim, Pangi Sub-division of Chamba, Lahaul & Spiti Districts of Himachal Pradesh should reach up to 5th August, 2016 by 17:00 hours. Applications may be sent through Registered post/Speed post/By Hand in a cover.
  • The Institute shall screen the applications received by due date. The list of eligible
    candidates will be hosted on the Institute’s website (www.wii.gov.in) by 9th August, 2016. The written test for short-listing the candidates for the personal interview will be held on 24th August, 2016.
  • Eligible candidates have to report at the Auditorium located inside the Institute campus
    at Dehra Dun on 24th August, 2016 at 09:00 hours with their original documents
    /certificates for verification. Eligible candidates have to appear for written test on the same day from 10:00 hours onward in the Auditorium. Separate examinations will be organized for the project positions, between 10:00 – 11:00 hours for Project Scientist positions, 12:00 – 13:00 hours for Project Associate positions, and 14:30 – 15:30 hours for Project Fellow positions. The examination will be of one-hour duration with 40 objective type questions of one mark each. There will be twenty questions covering wildlife ecology and management, and twenty questions on the subject domain of respective posts as specified in the Syllabus
    (Annexure 3).
  • Results of the written test shall be declared on 25th August, 2016 by 15:00 hours in the Institute’s website (www.wii.gov.in). Up to five (05) candidates will be short-listed per post in each of the projects based on their merit, i.e., the marks obtained in the test. The shortlisted candidates have to appear for a personal interview on 26th, 2016 from 10:00 hours onward in the Institute’s Board Room. The marks scored in the written test and in the interview would be combined to determine the order of merit.
