About CIAB:

Center of Innovative and Applied Bioprocessing (CIAB) is an autonomous national institute under Department of Biotechnology (Govt. of India). This futuristic innovation institute of its own kind in the country has a mission of advancing knowledge, leads and emerging technologies/processes relevant to agri-food sector towards applications and products. It aims to link them with societal benefits through catalysing/promoting entrepreneurial action around bioprocesses, bio-products, value-addition to bioproducts etc. with special reference to the agri-food sector. Currently, the four major mandated R&D areas in hand at the institute are (A) Value Addition to Primary Processing Residues/ Wastes for Edible Products; (B) Valorisation of Crop Waste for Speciality Products and Chemicals; (C) Nutritionals, nutraceuticals and upgradation of value or use of bio-products, (D) Biosynthetic technology/synthetic biology for low volume-high value products and industrial enzymes. To support

and steer this mission, the institute requires following temporary research positions on stipendiary / fellowship basis:

(A) FELLOWSHIPS FUNDED BY CIAB FOR INTERNAL R&D PROJECTS/ACTIVITIES

Position: Junior Research Fellow

Number of Positions: 2

Age Limit: 28 years

Fellowship: Rs. 37,000/- per month + HRA or Hostel Facility

Tenure: 1 year, extendable based on performance and availability of funds

• Principal Investigators: Dr. Sasikumar Elumalai, Scientist-E
• Principal Investigators: Dr. Bhuwan B. Mishra, Scientist-D

Qualifications:

• M.Sc. in Chemistry (General / Organic / In-organic / Physical / Other) or Pharmaceutical Chemistry, or M. Pharm from a recognized University/Institute
• NET/GATE or any other national-level test qualified
• Working Area: Isolation, characterization of natural products from plants, preparation of derivatives for biological assay, and biomass lignin characterization and catalytic conversion.

Application Process:

The interested candidates may appear for a walk-in interview on 05-02-2024 along with the application form available on the website www.ciab.res.in. The duly filled application form must be submitted at the time of the registration from 09:00 AM to 10:30 AM on 05-02-2024. The candidates must ascertain their eligibility before applying, as ineligible candidates would not be interviewed. The selected candidates may be allowed to register for a PhD program at IISER Mohali/PU Chandigarh.

General Conditions:

1. Incomplete or improperly formatted applications will be rejected.
2. These research opportunities are open only to Indian Nationals.
3. Candidates applying for multiple positions should submit separate applications for each position.

Important Instructions:

• Please download and submit the application form from the CIAB website.
• All completed applications, along with photocopies of relevant educational and experience certificates, must be submitted at the time of registration (09:00 AM to 10:30 AM) on 05-02-2024 at the following address: Center of Innovative and Applied Bioprocessing (CIAB), Sector-81 (Knowledge City), Manauli P.O., S.A.S. Nagar, Mohali – 140306, Punjab.
• The positions are based in Mohali, Punjab, with occasional assignments at outstations.
• Number of positions may vary.
• Age relaxation for various categories will be as per the rules of DST and other Government of India agencies.
• If no suitable candidates are found in a particular area, no selection will be made for that position.
• No TA/DA or any other allowances will be provided for attending the walk-in-interview.
• Candidates should bring their original documents for verification, along with a set of photocopies for submission, during the interview.
• Candidates found eligible after scrutiny of applications will appear before a Selection Committee. The Chief Executive Officer, CIAB, reserves the right to devise criteria to shortlist candidates for the interview. Written test may also be conducted if required.
