Coordinate with the Instructor to prepare unknowns, reagents and equipment needed for experiments. A staff member is assigned to each laboratory experiment. Chemicals & equipment needed by students should be in the labs before class starts. Oversights do happen, but please check the lab carefully before requesting expected supplies. Facilitate smooth running of lab.

Refill Reagents. If reagent refills are needed during class, the student closes the empty bottle and carries it in an appropriate secondary container to the Stockroom Service Window, and carries the refilled bottle back to the lab.
Essential Qualification: The applicant must have a B.Sc. degree in Chemistry (Analytical/ Physical/ Organic / Inorganic/ Materials science) from a recognized University or equivalent grade. Candidates with prior experience working in a laboratory or managing or setting with a reasonable degree of
proficiency on computers will be preferred.Duration: Regular position with a probation of one year
Management:
a) Cleaning and setting up the required chemicals and glassware and equipment required for any experiment with prior consultation with the TA and/or instructor.
b) Manage an inventory in the lab and the faculty-in-charge shall have access to the information whenever they desire.
c) Lab staff shall maintain the record for experimental requirements and maintain records of both for future years.
d) Twice every year (preferably at the end of the semester), the lab assistant shall wipe down the chemical shelves, respective transfer all reagents, clean out every glassware remaining and make it ready for the upcoming semester.
e) Maintenance of a clean lab at all times. f) Maintain an MSDS folder of all chemicals present in the lab and this shall be easily available at all times.
Provide Unknowns. Normally, unknown samples will be given to the TA. Staff will give unknowns (including refills) to a student with written permission from the TA or Instructor. With approval of the Instructor, Lab Staff will give TA the unknown answer key after the students have turned in their results.
Check first aid and chemical spill kits, eyewashes, safety showers and fire extinguishers in each lab regularly.
Arrange repair of broken/malfunctioning equipment as soon as possible. TAs immediately report such equipment (in writing) to the lab Staff to eliminate bottlenecks caused by equipment shortages.
Rosters & Add/Drops. Lab Staff will supply class rosters at the beginning of the semester on the notice board
Assist: Lab Staff can assist students only if demanded by the instructor.
Stocks: Manage stocks of consumables and non-consumables required for labs. If required, needs to assist in making purchase requests.
Services: Needs to arrange/manage instrument visits for repair/ calibration from time to time in conjunction with the instructor.
Refer students to appropriate staff or services. Where questions fall outside our area of expertise, Lab Staff will try to send the student to the person or office that can help.
