Admission under the Institutional-JRF Programme of IASST, January 2026 Session
The Institute invites applications for admission as Institutional JRF at IASST, Guwahati, in the following research areas for the January 2026 Session.
For Physical Sciences Division

Eligibility
Candidates shall be eligible to apply for admission and registration within the ongoing program of research at IASST if:
- He/she has obtained 55% marks in aggregate (Equivalent CGPA on 10-point scale) in the master’s degree examination. A candidate belonging to SC/ST who has obtained 50% marks in aggregate in the master’s degree examination shall also be eligible to apply.
- Qualified valid national PhD research fellowship (CSIR-NET- JRF/UGC-NET- JRF/DBT-JRF/ICMR –JRF) OR Qualified CSIR/UGC-NET Category–2 (appointment as Assistant Professor and admission to PhD) / CSIR/UGC-NET Category–3 (admission to PhD only) / Joint Entrance Screening Test (JEST) with validity of test score.
Age Limit: The upper age limit is 28 years. Age relaxation as per the GOI Norms.
Application Procedure: Interested candidates should apply online only (https://iasst.gov.in) within fifteen days of publication of the advertisement. Incomplete applications and those received after the closing date will not be entertained. No TA/DA will be provided to the candidate for appearing in the selection interview.
Selection Procedure
Applicants who do not meet the minimum eligibility criteria will not be considered for the shortlisting/selection process. Candidates who meet the eligibility criteria mentioned above will be invited to an interview. Selection will be based on the performance in the Interview and the availability of a vacant seat. The expected date of the Interview will be displayed on the website/communicated to the shortlisted candidates. The list of applicants shortlisted to appear in the Interview will be uploaded to the IASST website. Specific instructions regarding the interview will be communicated to the shortlisted candidates only. The decisions of the admission committee will be final and binding, and no correspondence will be entertained in this regard. Results of the final selection will be available on the IASST website, and all correspondence must be sent to registrar@iasst.gov.in. Selected candidates, after joining, will be eligible to apply for PhD admission in AcSIR or the University under which the supervisor is affiliated.
Fellowship/Financial Support for Institutional JRF
Selected candidates will be required to join the IASST institutional fellowship program from 1st January 2026. The selected candidates shall be eligible for a monthly fellowship as per the recent circular of the DST, Govt. of India, on Ph.D. fellowships. The fellowship amount is Rs. 37000 + HRA (as applicable) for JRF. Subject to the availability of seats, selected candidates will be provided accommodation in the Dorothy Hodgkin Student and Scientists’ Home as per the Institute’s rules. Candidates are requested to visit the Institute’s website for updated details from time to time.
IASST’s Right
If suitable candidates are not found in any discipline, IASST reserves the right not to fill its JRF position for this academic year.
