About the job
We seek to hire a Patent Associate to be a part of Saint-Gobain patent team located at SGRI, Chennai, and work with the team to protect Saint-Gobain innovations. You will work with the business and the R&D team to build and purposefully prosecute the associated worldwide patent portfolio and strategy. This includes identifying patentable inventions; securing high-quality & strategic patent assets; providing expert technical and legal analysis; handling patent challenges and working with R&D and business to understand priorities and challenges.
Roles & Responsibilities:
- Studying & Analyzing technology through patent review
- Preparing IP opinions (patentability, FTO, invalidity)
- Keep an eye on technology, competition and geography through patent watches and disseminating the insights from patent watches to R&D and Business
- Working with R&D to convert ideas into invention disclosures.
- Drafting patent specifications for India Adapting Indian priority filing for PCT, EPO and beyond
- Drafting and handling response to office actions in India and overseas and all other compliance requirements as per the applicable patent law.
- Assisting in patent oppositions and providing technical support to the enforcement activities through research and analysis of recent cases etc.
Educational Background: Bachelor/Master degree in Metallurgical and Materials Engineering or Master degree in Science (Physics, Chemistry especially inorganic chemistry) from premier academic institutions
Desired skills & Experience:
a) In-depth knowledge in preparing and prosecuting patent applications spanning between 4-6 years in R&D/law firm set up.
b) Patent Agent Registration with the Indian Patent Office
c) Excellent command over the English language (written & verbal)
