NII PhD Admission Program 2023-2024 Announced 

National Institute of Immunology (NII) invites applications from eligible candidates for its
Ph.D. programme. Cutting-edge research at NII encompasses broad interdisciplinary
areas of Immunology, Infectious and Chronic Disease Biology, Molecular and
Cellular Biology, Chemical Biology, Structural Biology and Computational
Biology.

Eligbility Criteria:

A. M.Sc. in any branch of Science (e.g. Biology, Chemistry, Mathematics, Physics)
M.Tech., M.B.B.S., M.VSc., M.Pharm., Integrated M.Sc., or equivalent
qualification as per the norms of the Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU), New
Delhi.

B. At least 60% aggregate score or equivalent grade in Senior Secondary
Certificate (10+2), Bachelor’s degree, and 55% aggregate score or equivalent
grade in Master’s degree are essential for the general category. Five percent
relaxation in aggregate scores in Senior Secondary, Bachelor’s and Master’s
degrees will be applicable for candidates from the reserved categories [(OBC
(non-creamy layer; NCL), SC/ST, PwD and EWS]. Rounding off of percentage
score to the next integral value is not permitted.

C. Candidates appearing for the qualifying examination in the current academic year
are eligible to apply; they will be admitted provisionally pending satisfactory
fulfillment of the eligibility requirements at the time of joining.

D. Reservations of seats: 15% for SC, 7.5% for ST, 27

% for OBC (NCL) and 5% for
persons with disability (PwD) as per statutory norms.
Reservation for EWS: The persons belonging to EWS who are not covered under
the scheme of reservation for SCs, STs and OBCs shall get 10% reservation.

Selection procedure:

A. NII will select candidates for the Ph.D. programme through the following two
Channels: Channel# 1: Computer-based Entrance Examination, NII-2023 to be
conducted by NII at multiple centers across India on 26th February 2023
(Sunday).

Channel# 2: Joint Graduate Entrance Examination in Biology and
Interdisciplinary Life Sciences (JGEEBILS-2023).
Candidates must appear in at least one of the two examinations mentioned
above. Candidates will be short-listed for an interview based on their scores in
either NII-2023 or JGEEBILS-2023.

B. The list of candidates short-listed for interviews shall be available on the NII
website and Notice Board on or before 15th April, 2023.

C. Interviews will be held online during 6th- 13th June, 2023.

D. Candidates selected will be enrolled for the Ph.D. programme of NII in academic affiliation with JNU, New Delhi.

Ph.D. Programme:

A. The programme will start on 3 rd July 2023.

B. NII currently provides Junior Research Fellowship of Rs.31000/- per month
to the selected candidates. Awardees of fellowships from CSIR, UGC, ICMR,
DBT or and DST, may avail them as per rules of the respective funding agency.

C. NII is a residential campus and shared hostel accommodation will be
provided to all the students admitted to the program

Application procedure:

A. Candidates should submit their applications through NII online application
portal only. The details of the application process are available
at http://www.nii.res.in. Candidates applying through JGEEBILS-2023 must also
submit an application through NII application portal, along with application fees.

B. Online application fee is Rs.1200/- for GENERAL/OBC (NCL) candidates
and Rs.600/- for SC/ST/PwD/EWS (non-refundable).

C. Online application facility will be available at the NII website from 15th
December, 2022 to 20th January, 2023.

F. Name of the candidate and the date of birth should match the corresponding
entries in the Secondary School Certificate (10th) or equivalent.

G. Candidates must ensure that the information details furnished in the online
application are true and correct. If any discrepancy is observed at any stage, NII
reserves the right to cancel the admission.

Specifications regarding the documents to be uploaded

  • The scanned image of photograph of applicant should be in .jpg/.jpeg/.png format and image size should be between 20Kb and 60Kb.
  • Photograph should be passport size in which full face is visible and eyes are open. It should present full head from top of hair to bottom of chin. Background of the photograph should be of a light colour (preferably white). There should not be any shadow on the face or in the background.
  • The scanned image of signature of applicant should be in .jpg/.jpeg/.png format and image size should be between 10Kb and 30Kb.
  • The scanned category certificate/PwD certificate should be in .jpg/.jpeg/.png/.pdf format and file size should be between 20Kb and 200Kb.
  • The scanned JGEEBILS certificate should be in .jpg/.jpeg/.png/.pdf format and file size should be between 20Kb and 200Kb.

The fee can be remitted in the following ways:

Through any debit/ credit card/ net banking/UPI using online payment gateway facility

 

Application Fee Details

Important Notes:

  • Applicants must mention their correct & working mobile number and e-mail ID. One mobile number and one e-mail ID should be used for filling one application only. All information/communication by National Institute of Immunology will be sent on applicant’s registered mobile number and e-mail ID.
  • Once the application form is completely filled, applicant should click on the ‘Final Submit’ button to save all details provided. Applicant may check filled application in the PREVIEW and modify, if required. Applicant will then be redirected to a payment gateway to complete the payment process.

Examination

  • National Institute of Immunology will conduct a computer-based examination in multiple cities and centres across India.
  • The examination pattern will be of objective type and the medium of examination will be English only. Candidates are encouraged to take the mock test which will be available on this portal on or after 10th February 2023.
  • Duration of examination will be 90 minutes and total number of questions will be 60. Each correct answer will be awarded THREE marks. ONE mark will be deducted for each wrong answer.
  • Based on marks obtained in either NII -2023 examination or JGEEBILS – 2023, candidates may be shortlisted for interviews to be held at National Institute of Immunology, New Delhi. Candidates are encouraged to appear in both the examinations.
  • Site best viewed in Firefox 16+, Chrome 20+ and Internet Explorer 11 at 1024 x 768 pixels resolution and JavaScript should be enabled.
