Job Description
As a Scientist III in the Synthetics Laboratory, you will be engaged in the synthesis and delivery of USP Reference Standard candidate materials and API impurities. You will design and develop cost-effective synthetic routes, conduct literature searches, and plan and execute the synthesis of target molecules from milligram to kilogram scale. This role requires adherence to Quality Management Systems (QMS), lab safety practices, and timely project execution and reporting.
Key Responsibilities
- Carry out literature searches related to assigned projects using scientific databases
- Design synthetic routes for target molecules and prepare project proposals with cost estimates
- Procure key raw materials and reagents required for projects
- Perform small and large-scale lab reactions for synthesis of target compounds
- Purify compounds via crystallization, column chromatography, and flash purification systems
- Troubleshoot synthesis and purification issues
- Contribute to complex projects through innovative methodologies
- Ensure availability of chemicals and equipment; forward purchase requisitions
- Interpret analytical data of synthesized compounds (IR, NMR, Mass, Elemental analysis)
- Produce quality materials as per customer requirements and package synthesized compounds
- Plan, execute, and complete projects as per timelines
- Document experiments as per QMS guidelines
- Ensure timely calibrations and proper working condition of lab equipment
- Follow lab safety norms and communicate effectively within cross-functional teams

Qualifications
- Ph.D. (Full Time) in Synthetic Organic Chemistry with 1–3 years of post-doctoral/industrial experience in API Process R&D/CDMO/CRO OR M.Sc. (Organic Chemistry) with 6–8 years of industrial experience
- Strong background in synthetic organic chemistry and interpretation of spectral data (IR, NMR, HPLC, Mass, Elemental analysis)
- Ability to independently design and optimize synthetic processes for target molecules/APIs
- Hands-on experience in process development of diverse chemical classes of APIs/NCEs on lab and production scale
- Experience in QMS, GMP/GLP environment, and documentation procedures
- Excellent troubleshooting, organizational, verbal, and written communication skills
- Knowledge of flow chemistry, wide range of organic reactions, and handling sensitive reagents preferred
- Track record of patents/publications is an advantage
- Attention to detail, problem-solving skills, and ability to work independently and in teams
