About the Project
As part of IIT Gandhinagar Recruitment 2025, the Smart Energy & Thermal Transport Research Lab is seeking candidates for a Postdoctoral Fellowship to work on scalable and durable frost-inhibiting coatings on aluminum plate-fin and microchannel heat exchangers. This research integrates surface engineering, thermo-fluid experimentation, and modeling to:
- Design and fabricate micro/nanoengineered metal surfaces.
- Study frost initiation, condensation dynamics, and heat transfer performance.
- Evaluate coating durability under repeated frosting–defrosting cycles for aerospace applications.
Postdoctoral Fellowship Details
- Position: Postdoctoral Fellow (PDF) / Postdoctoral Fellowship
- Location: Gandhinagar, Gujarat, India
- Project: Smart Energy & Thermal Transport Research Lab – ARDB Sponsored
- Duration: 1 year (extendable based on performance)
- Remuneration: ₹72,000/- per month (consolidated)

Eligibility
- Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Materials Science, Aerospace Engineering, or related fields.
- Strong publication record.
- Minimum 60% marks or equivalent from graduation onwards; 55% in 10th & 12th.
Desired Background
- Strong foundation in heat transfer and phase-change phenomena, particularly condensation, frosting, or boiling.
- Hands-on experience in phase-change heat transfer experiments, heat exchanger testing, instrumentation, and data acquisition.
- Expertise in surface fabrication and characterization using contact angle goniometry, SEM, and surface energy measurements.
- Familiarity with numerical modeling (MATLAB, COMSOL, ANSYS Fluent) is preferred.
- Understanding of aerospace thermal systems or HVAC&R components is a plus.
