PhD Chemical Engineering Scientist Job role and responsibilities:

Multiphysics modeling and validation: Detailed physics-based modeling (preferably using Finite Element or finite volume method) of complex and diverse physical phenomena like electromagnetics, fluid dynamics (CFD), species transport (gas mixtures), multiphase flow, heat transfer, and structural mechanics, relevant to specific products and applications. Integrating diverse physics phenomena to analyze complex interactions
Scientific analysis and improvement ideas: Expert analysis of data obtained from models and/or experimentation to understand complex

functioning of products and/or processes. Identifying challenges and scope for improvement. Proposing novel ideas to overcome challenges and enrich product functionality, for cost and energy savings, ensuring faster time-to-market and promoting sustainability
Feasibility studies and research proposals: Preparing research proposals on novel ideas and securing buy-in from business leaders and global research managers. Performing proof-of-concept studies to demonstrate innovative solutions.
• Communication of project results to Technical experts and Management and sharing research outcome with global teams for expert feedback, possibility of collaboration, and expansion of research scope.
• Securing Intellectual property and publishing in scientific conferences and journals, Travel to customer sites, ABB locations on a need basis and ensuring safety and contribution to lab infrastructure.

Qualifications for PhD Chemical Engineering Scientist Job:

  • Ph.D. in Mechanical/ Electrical/ Chemical engineering with a strong publication and patent record, with a minimum of 2 years of experience; industrial research experience is preferred.
  • Expertise in finite element (F.E.) and finite volume (F.V.) modeling, particularly computational fluid dynamics (CFD) and heat transfer analysis. Exposure to electromagnetism and structural mechanics. Expert in tools like ANSYS, FLUENT, COMSOL, CFX, ICEPAK.
  • Expertise in complex 3D geometry for F.E/F.V. modeling and discretization of complex geometries using tools like ANSYS design modeler, SpaceClaim.
  • Expertise in analytical calculations (development of heuristic formulations) to analyze physical phenomena.
  • Expertise in testing, experimentation and using measurement tools/systems and software is preferred.
  • Ability to communicate effectively in English with internal and external experts and academicians.
  • Exposure to machine learning tools relevant to multiphysics research.
