Job Title: Research Scientist – Energy Transition
Location: Shell Technology Centre – Bangalore
Eligbility Criteria & Experience:
- A post-graduate degree (M.Tech, Ph.D.) in chemical engineering, material science or chemistry from a reputed institute will be preferred.
- A passion to learn & apply new competencies. This is mandatory as new areas of science and engineering will be explored to meet the mission of the team and Shell’s sustainability ambitions.
- Ability to demonstrate a commitment to Health, Safety, Security, and Environment in all our activities and help the organization move forward on its safety journey.
- Industrial research experience where you have engaged with customers &/or stakeholders to deliver projects is particularly relevant.
What’s the role
- The challenging research plans will be executed by applying existing capabilities but also by building enabling capabilities in the broad areas of electrochemistry, membranes, catalysis, and by leveraging the multi-disciplinary skills of the entire Technology organization.
- In this role, you are expected to translate business strategy and/or energy challenges into technical challenges and then apply known fundamental science & engineering concepts to deliver creative and pragmatic experimental plans. Stakeholder engagement is critical in defining these plans and ensuring their alignment when executing the projects.
- You will, in addition, be responsible in designing and monitoring project progress, also conduct “hands-on” experiments inside our laboratories by following established safety procedures.
- You will also manage multiple internal and external interfaces to deliver the project milestones with rigour and within the agreed timelines. An additional important element of the role will be the ability to coach and mentor junior members of the team whilst also scaling your own, personal learning curve by working in a high-performance team.
Where you fit in
- The Long-Range Research & Experimentation Team plays an integral role in ensuring that informed technology decisions are made. Your role in this team will focus on defining and executing innovation projects to de-risk technologies based on experimental data generated in the laboratory and pilot plants in Bangalore.
- Emerging Technologies (ET), which is part of the Long Range Research & Experimentation team, is a Centre of Expertise (CoE) with differentiated research skills and lab capabilities for the generation, evaluation, and development of new technological concepts in a variety of areas of relevance to Shell.
- Research themes in Emerging Technologies include Decarbonisation & Circularity in support of near-term as well as long-term energy transition commitments. Focus areas of research include hydrogen production through electrolysis, CO2 capture &conversion, energy storage, methane conversions, and electrification.
