Job Overview

Pfizer is hiring for the role of Scientist API Process Development at its Chennai location. The selected candidate will be responsible for developing scalable and robust API manufacturing processes, conducting literature reviews, optimizing synthetic routes, improving yields, reducing manufacturing costs, and supporting technology transfer activities. This Scientist API Process Development Job offers extensive involvement in process innovation, impurity

characterization, validation studies, manufacturing support, and digital transformation initiatives, including AI, Machine Learning, and Python-based applications within pharmaceutical research and development.

Job Responsibilities

  • Performing a literature search and identifying various synthetic routes.
  • Process development for API, Intermediate, RSMs, etc., yield improvement, and cost reduction-related activity.
  • Planning and performing experiments as per process governance (Lab feasibility, Optimization, Pre-validation, CPP, and Validation).
  • Planning, performing DoE to support the technology transfer team.
  • Interpretations of experimental results and propose process improvements (quality, yield, cost, etc.).
  • Technology transfer at manufacturing scale in the plant and supporting KGL / MS&T departments in resolving issues during scale-up and suggesting modifications.
  • Investigations and solutions for challenges.
  • Proposal for innovation projects.
  • Synthesis and characterization of process-related impurities.
  • Following good documentation practice and compliance with Safety procedures & cGMP procedures.
  • Managing lab requirements and maintaining the inventory.
  • Preparation of scientific reports, protocols, and documents for transferring technology to a plant at a manufacturing scale.
  • Equipment installation and qualification on time.
  • Maintaining lab safety and compliance, and managing a team.
  • Responsibilities include taking care of the lab.
  • Knowledge / hands-on experience with EG / Python coding, Machine Learning, AI, and digital fluency will be preferred.

Basic Qualifications

  • Ph.D. (Chemistry).
  • Education and technical expertise should include fields of Chemistry with an analytical background on the analysis of organic compounds.
  • Complete understanding and wide application of industry, functional, and Pfizer-specific principles, theories, concepts, and practices.
  • Enhanced knowledge of related disciplines, primarily in conducting complex reactions and purification of small-scale materials.
  • Knowledge of basic leadership principles.
  • Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal skills.
  • Self-starter, highly motivated with an action bias and collaborative nature.
