Job Overview
Springer Nature is hiring an Interim Associate or Senior Editor for Nature Communications under its Chemical Biology portfolio. This role is ideal for candidates with expertise in biocatalysis, enzyme engineering, chemoenzymatic synthesis, computational chemistry applied to biological systems, or related disciplines. The selected
candidate will manage research manuscripts, oversee peer review processes, collaborate with editorial teams, interact with researchers globally, and contribute to maintaining the journal’s high scientific standards. Role Responsibilities:
- Handle original research papers and oversee peer review
- Work closely with other editors on all aspects of the editorial process, including manuscript selection
- Make well-reasoned editorial decisions based on expert advice
- Determine subject representation within the journal
- Liaise extensively with editors across Nature Portfolio and the wider scientific community
- Attend conferences and visit research institutions
Experience, Skills & Qualifications
Essential:
- PhD (or equivalent) in biocatalysis, enzyme engineering, chemoenzymatic synthesis, computational chemistry applied to biological systems, or a related discipline at the chemistry-biology interface
- Strong understanding of chemical biology and related research areas
- Ability to critically assess the novelty, context, and impact of research
- Excellent communication skills in written and spoken English
- Strong interest in scientific research beyond a primary area of expertise
- Ability to quickly engage with new research areas
- Excellent interpersonal and collaboration skills
- Willingness to travel and engage with researchers internationally
Desirable:
- Postdoctoral or equivalent research experience
- Editorial experience (not required; full training will be provided)
- Significant editorial experience may be considered for appointment at Senior Editor level
