Job Purpose

process activities to ensure smooth plant operation and produce high-quality carbon black.

Job Purpose

As a Process Engineer, you will ensure smooth plant operations, maintain key process parameters, and support high-quality carbon black production. The role involves assisting in grade changes, reactor startups, equipment changeovers, and ensuring compliance with SOPs under QMS. You will work closely with the shift team to reduce off-spec material, optimize resources, maintain quality standards, and support continuous improvement activities. This position is ideal for candidates eager to grow within Birla Carbon careers while handling end-to-end process engineering responsibilities.

Job Challenges

To minimize off-spec generation by ensuring the shift team’s effective participation in process change activities. To meet high internal customer (QC, Warehouse) expectations through effective implementation of process parameters.

Key Result Areas

KRA1: Production

  • To implement set guidelines for trouble-free operation. Analyze critical parameters and communicate any abnormalities for immediate action in the shift.
  • Assist the Shift In-Charge in all process activities like Grade change, Reactor Start-up, Equipment changeover, changing process parameters for any change in DCS & field.
  • Follow all SOPs strictly as per QMS.
  • Follow the preventive and predictive maintenance Schedule in coordination with Engineering.
  • Routine plant rounds for identification of abnormalities and taking corrective actions with information to the Shift In-Charge.
  • Execute and supervise Refractory / Bag fixing jobs.

KRA2: Quality Control

  • Implement standard practices for maintaining product quality. Assist in maintaining key process parameters as per product characteristics.
  • Assist in timely inspection of product quality at each process change to reduce off-spec generation.
  • Prepare, analyze the Control Chart, Run Chart, and find out the reason for abnormality to take corrective action during the shift to obtain consistent quality.

KRA3: Cost Control

  • Optimum utilization of resources & waste minimization to contribute to achieving cost-effectiveness. Record keeping of costs incurred due to reprocessing, energy loss, waste generation, breakdowns, & other quality indicators.

KRA4: QMS

  • Implement all systems, procedures & work instructions for maintaining ideal plant operation. Understanding systems, procedures, and work instructions.
  • Participate in WCM, quality circle, kaizen, and 5-S activities.

KRA5: Process MIS

  • Prepare shift activity, events report to help in initiating improvement measures. Preparing shift-wise production report.
  • Maintain shift logbook for each activity in every shift.
  • Log sheet generation after logging the process parameter readings in DCS.
  • Enter the quality parameter in the register after getting it from the shift chemist.
