The Kotak School of Sustainability (KSS), IIT Kanpur, invites applications for the position of Senior Project Executive Officer on a contractual basis. This role offers a unique opportunity to contribute to a nationally significant sustainability initiative, supporting interdisciplinary research, academic coordination, project execution, and institutional operations at one of India’s premier institutes.

The Kotak School of Sustainability (KSS) at IIT Kanpur, India, was launched in December 2023 as a transformative initiative to lead India—and the world—towards a sustainable future. Over the next five years, The School aims to embed sustainability into education, research, and policy, fostering innovation and shaping practices for lasting environmental, social, and economic impact. The School is seeking a Project Executive Officer who will play a crucial role in driving the successful implementation of this landmark initiative and ensuring that the key projects driven by KSS align with the strategic objectives set by the apex committee and deliver tangible value for societal good. Position Overview: Advertisement for one Senior Project Executive Officer.

Qualifications / Experience:

• Ph.D./ Master’s degree in Civil and Environmental Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Physics, Chemistry, Geophysics, Earth and Atmospheric Science, Climate Science, Sustainability, or a relevant field with relevant experience. An MBA or other advanced degree will be preferred and should have experience in managing and driving projects.
• *Duration in Ph.D. degree, after three years, will be considered as research experience.
• Applicant should be good in written communication (emails/ letters) and should have excellent content writing capability, including compilation of reports, newsletters, and social media posts.
• Applicant should have knowledge of paper filing, accounting, and procedures for ordering/purchasing, and should be versed in adjusting to running around jobs (fixing items, following up with purchase, repair, etc.).
• Should have experience in managing an office, laboratory, and large projects.
• Should be aware of guidelines and processes in Government institutes, including the Government eMarketplace.
• Should be versed in keeping checks on timelines, smooth execution of projects, arranging meetings, and coordination with project teams and stakeholders.
• Applicant should have prior experience in logistics for meetings, seminars, and workshops, and in coordinating visits.
• The applicant is expected to have a pleasant personality, excellent interpersonal and public speaking skills, good team player, and possess working knowledge of English and Hindi.
• The applicant must also have working knowledge of computer-based office applications.

Key Responsibilities:

• Coordinate with faculty, researchers, and external partners for various research and academic activities, including organizing meetings.
• Assist faculty, students, PhDs, and Post Docs in conducting experiments and analyses.
• Train and supervise teaching assistants and students working in the laboratories.
• Assist and facilitate both internal and external users; additionally, the SPEO is expected to contribute to writing proposals for securing funding.
• Collaborate with other teams within and outside IIT Kanpur to promote interdisciplinary research leading to high-quality publications in the sustainability domain.
• Maintain databases and assist in the operation and maintenance of in-house equipment.
• Organize conferences, seminars, and workshops.
• Support the procurement of equipment in coordination with PIs, including preparation of tender documents and evaluation.
• Handle miscellaneous office work as required by the Office of Kotak School.
• Undertake any other task as assigned by the Dean of Kotak School of Sustainability.

Consolidated Salary Range: INR 70000-5000-200000 per month (Salary shall be commensurate with experience & skills)

Nature of position: Temporary / Contractual

Duration of appointment: 1 year or till the end of the project (whichever is earlier), renewed annually based on performance.
