PhD Admissions at IITH | Apply Now for Chemistry Research Fellowship
PhD Admissions are open for the Chemistry Research Fellowship at the Indian Institute of Technology Hyderabad (IITH). The admissions include both Regular and Direct (High CGPA) routes, offering research opportunities with institute fellowships. Candidates from IITs, NITs, IISc, IISERs, and CFTIs with strong academic records are encouraged to apply and contribute to cutting-edge research in science, technology, and liberal arts.

About PhD Admissions
IITH offers PhD programs in multiple disciplines and streams. Admission for the Chemistry Research Fellowship is based on a written test and an interview.

Regular Admissions: Open to all eligible candidates based on departmental selection criteria.

Direct (High CGPA) Admissions:
For candidates with CGPA ≥ 9.0 from IITs, NITs, IISc, IISERs, or CFTIs, who are eligible for institute fellowships.
Important Note: Candidates must carefully choose the correct application link (Adv No) after logging in. Separate applications are required for Regular and Direct admissions, and for each department to which you are applying.

ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA:
For Regular Candidates:
Master’s (MSc) degree in Chemistry and related areas with good academic record and valid GATE-Score/ UGC-JRF/ CSIR-JRF/ DST INSPIRE/ Any other relevantScholarship.
For Sponsored Candidates:
Category A:
Students working under sponsored projects (i.e., DST, CSIR, BRNS, DBT, ICMR etc.) of the Indian Institute of Technology Hyderabad (IITH) with avalid GATEScore/CSIR-JRF/UGC-JRF/Lectureship (LS) at the time of joining the project are also eligible to apply for the Ph.D. program (Candidates from sponsored programare not eligible for any stipend from Ministry of Education).
Category B:
Candidates working in reputed research/industrial organizations may also apply under a sponsored Ph.D. program (candidates from sponsored programs are noteligible for any scholarship from the Ministry of Education). A proof of sponsorship from the parent organization must be provided at the time of the interview. Theselected candidates must complete their coursework in the Department of Chemistry at IIT Hyderabad. “External Direct PhD Student should have at least 2 years of relevant experience with NOC can be eligible for admission as External Direct PhD. Further, they should be treated as ‘External Students’ and will be eligible for 12 credits of course requirements as applicable for ‘External Students’. All such external direct Ph.D. students will be awarded Ph.D. without M Tech.”
SELECTION PROCESS: The department may follow certain cut-off criteria:
(a) Depending on the departmental requirement and based on the total number of applications received.
(b) Based on the number of applications received for individual research disciplines.
(c) The number of applications received in preference to each research discipline (i.e., first preference given by the candidate).
In general, more weightage will be given to the first choice of research interest (i.e., area of interest) given by candidates during the time of filling out theirapplication. SC/ST and OBC reservations will be implemented as per the Government rules. Rules set by the IITH Senate will be applied.

Key Instructions for Applicants

Login ID Creation: Applicants must create their own unique login ID.

Fee Receipt: Download immediately after payment; no later download is possible.

Application Submission: Upload all required documents; submitting the fee alone does not complete the application.

Cutoff Marks: Determined by departments; relaxations follow the norms of the Government of India.

Areas of Interest: Applicants must select specified areas during the application process; CIP programs require choosing two project numbers.
Application Steps
- Step 1 – Registration: Provide a valid login ID, email, and password. Use an active personal email.
- Step 2 – Login: Use your login ID and password. Enter the secret key emailed at registration.
- Step 3 – Choose Department: Click ‘Click here to apply’ and select the department.
- Step 4 – Fill in the Application: Update all details and click ‘Save/Submit’. Delete non-applicable rows.
- Step 5 – Application Fee:
Regular PhD: Male GEN/EWS/OBC – ₹500, SC/ST/PH/Female – ₹250

Payment is only available online; please save the payment receipt.
- Step 6 – Submit Application: Clicking ‘Submit Application’ is mandatory.
- Step 7 – Print Application: Take a printout after submitting your application.
- Step 8 – Documents for Written Test/Interview: Carry printout, payment reference, and certificates.
- Step 9 – Multiple Departments: Apply separately for each department with a separate payment.
- Step 10 – Update Application: Upload payment document and photo till the last date.
- Step 11 – Incomplete Applications: Will not be accepted.
