MID-YEAR RESEARCH ADMISSIONS 2025-26

The Jawaharlal Nehru Centre for Advanced Scientific Research (JNCASR), Bengaluru, an autonomous institution under the Department of Science and Technology, Government of India, invites applications for Mid-Year Research Admissions 2025-26. Eligible candidates can apply for Ph.D. and M.S. (Engg.) programmes in multiple interdisciplinary units, including Chemistry, Physics, Biology, Neuroscience, and Engineering Mechanics. Research Programmes Offered

Applications are invited for admission to Ph.D. and M.S. (Engg.) programs in the following units:

  • Chemistry and Physics of Materials Unit (CPMU)
  • Engineering Mechanics Unit (EMU)
  • Evolutionary and Organismal Biology Unit (EOBU)
  • Molecular Biology and Genetics Unit (MBGU)
  • New Chemistry Unit (NCU)
  • Neuroscience Unit (NSU)

Eligibility Criteria

Applicants must hold an M.Sc., B.E./B.Tech./B.S. (4 years), M.E./M.Tech., B.VSc./M.VSc., or MBBS/MD degree as applicable.

  • Candidates with M.Sc. or equivalent should have at least 55% aggregate marks or equivalent grade.
  • Applicants with a 4-year Bachelor’s degree should have a minimum of 75% marks.
  • Candidates must have qualified in GATE, GPAT, UGC-JRF, CSIR-NET-JRF, ICMR-JRF, DBT-JRF, or INSPIRE-JRF.
    (Validity of the qualifying certificate must extend up to 1 January 2026.)

Selection Procedure

Shortlisting is based on academic performance and results in national exams. Final selection will be through interviews, which may include a preliminary test or aptitude evaluation in specific units.

Applications must be submitted online only.
The application fee is ₹1000 (non-refundable), payable through NEFT or online transfer to JNCASR’s Canara Bank account (IISc Branch, Account No. 0683101013474, IFSC: CNRB0000683).
Applicants should retain their UTR number for reference while completing the online application.

Fellowships

All regular students admitted to JNCASR are eligible for research fellowships from JNCASR/CSIR/UGC/ICMR/DBT/INSPIRE, depending on their mode of entry.

Additional Information

  • A 5% relaxation in marks or equivalent grade is applicable for SC/ST/OBC (non-creamy layer)/PWD/EWS candidates.
  • Women candidates are strongly encouraged to apply.
