Job Description
The Process Scientist will join the Refining and Advanced Fuels Technology (RFT) team under Fuels & Low Carbon Technology (F&LCT) within Applied Sciences Technology. The team ensures fuel quality across supply chains, develops differentiated fuels, and pioneers bio-based feedstock integration into refineries. This role focuses on implementing novel bio-feedstock opportunities in BP’s refineries while supporting technology development and operational excellence.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead studies with business and technology teams to deliver optimization and constraint-busting solutions in manufacturing assets.
- Contribute to technology programs supporting refining operations, troubleshooting, and evaluating novel opportunities.
- Develop foundational understanding of scientific challenges in adopting and converting new feedstocks.
- Support experimental and process modeling work, communicating results internally and with partners.
- Foster a strong HSSE (Health, Safety, Security, and Environment) culture and support safe operations.
- Provide technical support for the design, assurance, and installation of research-scale experimental equipment.
- Assist in the startup and operation of new experimental units, collaborating closely with operations teams.
Qualifications
- MEng with 3+ years of relevant experience or PhD in Chemical Engineering or Chemistry.
- Early career experience in at least one of the following:
- Conversion process R&D&C
- Refinery site technical teams
- Heterogeneous catalysis R&D
- Strong skills in analytical thinking, experimental design, process safety, technoeconomic evaluation, and scientific communication.
- Ability to collaborate across teams and drive innovation.
