Job Description
BITS Pilani – Goa Campus is offering a PhD position for the project “Artificial Intelligence control of a minijet-manipulated square turbulent jet”. The selected candidate will work under the supervision of Prof. Shibu Clement, Prof. Aditya Challa, and Prof. Pritanshu Ranjan, focusing on fluid mechanics, turbulence control, and the optimization of AI-driven real-time systems.
Key Responsibilities
- Compare round and square turbulent jets and optimize minijet actuation parameters.
- Develop a real-time AI-controlled closed-loop system.
- Formulate control laws for multiple actuators.
- Conduct scaling analyses linking control parameters to jet decay rates.
- Perform both experimental and computational fluid dynamics (CFD) research.
- Collaborate across disciplines to enhance mixing efficiency in turbulent flows.
Qualifications
Essential:

Postgraduate degree in Mechanical, Aerospace, or Chemical Engineering from a recognized university with a minimum of 60% marks.
Desirable:
- Knowledge of fluid mechanics and turbulence.
- Experience or coursework in CFD.
- Familiarity with Python or MATLAB (or willingness to learn).
- Understanding of AI frameworks such as PyTorch or TensorFlow (or a desire to learn).
- Strong interdisciplinary research interest and work ethic.
Fellowship
₹37,000 – ₹42,000 per month (based on PhD year and performance).
Location
BITS Pilani, K. K. Birla Goa Campus (Hostel accommodation may be provided, subject to availability).
Duration
As per BITS Pilani norms.
