Job Description:
The primary responsibility of the Electrolyte Scientist is to develop and scale up liquid electrolyte formations used in various kinds of batteries, such as lithium-ion and sodium-ion systems.
The Electrolyte Scientist will be primarily focused on solid-state, inorganic, material, organic, organometallic, and physical chemistry. They should have experience in synthesis and characterization of inorganic, organic, and organometallic compounds, as well as formulation development. The Scientist should understand the role of various additives used in electrolytes and their functionality. Additionally, they should have a solid understanding of the functioning of electrolytes in rechargeable battery systems and principles of solvation of solids and liquids. Simulation experience in electrolytes is desirable, but not necessary. The Scientist should be highly competent in chemistry laboratory operations, experimental procedures, and characterization techniques. They will work within a highly technical team, contributing to innovation and leading-edge technology for battery cell manufacturing and sustainability, collaborating with emerging companies, organizations, and universities.
Responsibilities:
- Preparation and scale-up of various electrolyte formulations with known process chemistry/licensed IP
- Plan and execute R&D programs on electrolytes tailored for Indian climatic conditions for lithium batteries
- Plan and execute R&D programs on additive scouting and synthesis for electrolytes for lithium batteries
- Plan and execute R&D programs on upcoming chemistries (Na-ion, etc.) for electrolytes
Essential Attributes:
- Experience in working with Li/Na battery electrolyte systems is preferred
- Experience in a related field of catalysis is useful as it requires a similar skill set
- Expertise in handling LCMS, HPLC, and various organic chemistry characterization techniques
- Experience with a/c transport measurements on liquids and solids is highly valuable
- Expertise in solid-state synthesis and wet chemical synthesis of inorganic/organic/organometallic compounds
- Knowledge of basic electrochemical measurements
- Hands-on experience in the laboratory
- Experience in working with customers and meeting their demands
- Experience with Li-cell (at least coin cell) making line in a glove box/dry room
Education Requirements:
- Ph.D. in Material Science/Inorganic Chemistry/Solid State Chemistry/Organic chemistry/Organometallic Chemistry/Physical Chemistry
- Minimum of 4-7 years of relevant/similar industrial experience after PhD degree
Preferred Skills:
- Extensive reading of literature and ability to articulate new trends in the relevant fields
- Ability to balance scientific and business deliverables for a project
- Experience in managing a team of 2-3 scientists/technical specialists and laboratory needs
