Important Interview Questions and Answers for the above job role:

  1. Can you describe your experience in medicinal chemistry and how it applies to this position?

Answer: Yes, I have a Ph.D. in Medicinal Chemistry and over 4 years of experience in the pharmaceutical industry. I have worked on drug discovery projects and have expertise in modern methods of organic synthesis, planning and execution of multi-step synthesis of complex heterocycles and natural products, analysis of structure-activity relationship (SAR), and multiparameter optimization for nominating drug candidates.

2. How do you approach designing and optimizing synthetic routes for small molecule targets emerging from next-generation modeling approaches?

Answer: I would start by analyzing the available data from computational modeling and assessing the feasibility of the proposed targets. Then, I would identify key structural features and design synthetic routes that are efficient and reliable. I would also consider scalability, cost, and sustainability in the design and optimization process.

3. What is your experience with outsourcing synthetic chemistry via CROs?

Answer: I have worked with CROs in the past and have experience in managing and monitoring their work to ensure high-quality results. I have also established clear communication channels and timelines to ensure that the projects stay on track.

4. How do you integrate different disciplines such as Biology, Pharmacology, and DMPK into your work?

Answer: I would collaborate closely with experts in those fields and incorporate their insights into the design and optimization process. For example, I would consider the pharmacological and toxicological profiles of the compounds in designing synthetic routes and optimizing multi-parameters for identifying preclinical development candidates.

5. Can you describe a project where you demonstrated innovative solutions to research problems and delivered on project goals?

Answer: One project where I demonstrated innovative solutions was the synthesis of a series of analogs of a lead compound. The lead compound had poor bioavailability, so we had to modify its structure to improve its pharmacological properties. I designed and synthesized several analogs with different structural features and assessed their pharmacological profiles. We identified a few promising candidates that showed improved pharmacological properties and were suitable for further development.
