Drugmaker Lupin Shuts Manufacturing Plant 
Around 17 Staff Test Covid-19 Positive

Two government officials said on Tuesday that after at least 17 employees at the company Lupin’s site tested positive for COVID-19, the drugmaker Lupin Ltd has shut one of its manufacturing plants in Gujarat.

According to the company Lupin’s website, at the Ankleshwar site in Gujarat state, the company has around 11 manufacturing plants, which is spread out over 40 acres and has 984 employees.

A senior district official, MD Modia said that, in recent days, employees from one of those plants, which produces tuberculosis drugs, have tested positive.

He said, “After the cases were confirmed, the plant was shut on July 12. The site has since been sanitized and that the operations of other plants in the facility are unaffected as there are no cases been reported from other plants.”

Another senior government official from the Bharuch district said that other employees who have come in contact with those who have tested positive are also in the process of being tested.
