Job Title: Scientist
Required:
Master’s degree in chemistry, chemical engineering, or related field.
Minimum 5-7 years of development/formulation experience with water-based technology in any of the following; coatings, adhesives, sealants, additives, polymers, resins etc.
Experience with food contact regulations
Preferred:
- Advanced degree in Chemistry in the field of formulation, material science, polymer science or adhesion science.
- Experience in the formulation of water-based packaging coatings for optimizing end-user performances and in roll-to-roll applications for optimizing coating on-machine performances.
- Technical understanding of the properties of papers, foils, films, adhesives, polymers and other materials commonly used in packaging.
- Technical understanding of flexo, gravure, Mayer rod and roll coating processes.

Position Overview
Scientist for the flexible packaging market. This position will lead the research, the design and the development of fully formulated water-based barrier and/or seal coatings allowing customers to produce speciality packaging that is not only safe and user-friendly for consumers, practical for converting and packaging lines, but also sustainable and cost-effective. Main research areas are barrier, seal and print receptive coatings. The candidate will work closely with a cross-functional team composed of Business Development, Marketing, Sales, Application Engineering, Manufacturing, Regulatory people but as well external stakeholders: Customer, and, Raw Material Suppliers. The Scientist is the subject matter expert in coating performance optimization in terms of end-use performances and coatability.
Primary Responsibilities
- Collaborate with the team to generate new packaging materials and new coating ideas based on market needs.
- Translate market and customer needs into technical, economic and regulatory specifications for coatings.
- Create and adapt predictive test methods to deliver robust results and formulations
- Research chemistries, characterize and evaluate raw materials
- Formulation design, development and scale-up of the next generation of coatings for barrier and packaging closing for roll-to-roll coating applications.
- Analyze and develop IP landscape and strategy for types of chemistries.
- Document research efforts and new products, and provide technical assistance and training to customers and the team.
- Support lab maintenance and safety
