The Institute was established in 1935 as the first non official centre in India for biomedical research and was included within the aegis of CSIR in 1956.

Qualifications:
- MS(Pharm) in Medicinal Chemistry with at least 55% marks or Ph.D in Synthetic organic chemistry, peptide synthesis and its biophysical studies, inhibitor design and screening.
- At least two(2) years of post MS(Pharm) research experience in synthetic organic lab o medicinal chemistry, drug design, organic synthesis, Mol Modeling, basic cell Culture etc.
