Product Characterization Lead Job Description:
The Analytical Chemistry team at bp is tasked with developing and running new analytical methods and equipment to support the company’s strategic framework across fuels, biofuels, SAF, biogas, hydrogen, and other low-carbon initiatives. Accordingly, as Product Characterization Lead, the successful candidate reports to the Analytical Chemistry Manager and works across multiple interfaces to ensure business needs are met.
Key Responsibilities:
- Deliver safe, standards-adherent experimental operations, contributing to the development of a proactive safety culture.
- Apply analytical science expertise to perform analytical testing and method development, addressing complex challenges across diverse business areas.
- Own and advance key analytical techniques for the team, providing deep theoretical and practical expertise and mentoring colleagues.
- Moreover, drive continuous improvement in analytical methods and sample analysis.
- Finally, partner with management to develop and implement the analytical strategy for the team, aligned with the global analytical function.
Product Characterization Lead Eligibility Criteria:
- Bachelor’s/Master’s degree in Chemistry or related analytical science field, or proven experience in analytical techniques.
- Experience in chemistry, analytical science, and method development.
- Resourceful experimentalist with practical research experience in laboratory scale reaction testing equipment.
- Knowledge/experience of key product characterization techniques and ability to interpret and apply results.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills are essential, with the ability to collaborate effectively and foster learning.
- Proven ability to lead their own projects and deliver results.
