The Center of Innovative and Applied Bioprocessing (CIAB) is an autonomous national institute under the Department of Biotechnology (Govt. of India). As a pioneering innovation institute, it aims to advance knowledge and develop emerging technologies/processes relevant to the agri-food sector. The institute is dedicated to translating these technologies into societal benefits by fostering entrepreneurial activities in bioprocesses and bio-products, with a particular focus on the agri-food sector. CIAB’s major R&D areas include:
- Value Addition to Primary Processing Residues/Wastes for Edible Products
- Valorisation of Crop Waste for Specialty Products and Chemicals
- Nutritionals, nutraceuticals, and enhancing the value or use of bio-products
- Biosynthetic technology/synthetic biology for specialized products and industrial enzymes
(A) FELLOWSHIPS FUNDED BY INDUSTRY THROUGH CIAB FOR INTERNAL R&D PROJECTS/ACTIVITIES
1. Senior Research Fellow – One position
- Age limit: 30 years
- Fellowship: Rs. 42,000/- per month + (HRA as admissible or Hostel facility, if available)
- Tenure: One Year, extendable on an annual basis for subsequent years, subject to satisfactory progress, institutional needs, and financial provisions.
- Qualifications: M.Sc degree in Chemistry (Organic/Inorganic/Physical) / Electrochemistry/ Nanotechnology/ Nanoscience/Physics or relevant discipline in the field of organic chemical synthesis from a recognized University/Institute.
- Principal Investigator: Dr. Sasikumar Elumalai, Scientist–E
- Research Assignment: Heterogeneous catalyst development for chemical reactions and their characterizations.
2. Junior Research Fellow – One PositionAge limit: 28 Years
- Fellowship: Rs. 37,000/- per month + (HRA as admissible or Hostel facility, if available)
- Tenure: One year, extendable on an annual basis for subsequent years, subject to satisfactory progress, institutional needs, and financial provisions.
- Qualifications: M.Sc. in Chemistry (General/Organic/ Inorganic/ Physical/Others)/ or M.E./M. Tech (Chemical Engineering) from a recognised University/Institute, and NET/GATE qualified or any other relevant equivalent test.
- Principal Investigator: Dr. S. Saravanamurugan, Scientist–F
- Research Assignment: Catalysts synthesis and modifications, characterisations and transforming bio-based substrates to value-added products using catalytic approaches, including thermo, photo- and bio-catalysis.

Process of Engagement: The applications received will be screened by a committee to shortlist candidates for interviews. A duly constituted committee would interview the eligible applicants via video conferencing. The committee would recommend the candidates, if found suitable, for consideration of the competent authority for engagement on a purely Fellowship/Stipendiary basis. Provisions of registration for Ph.D. exist at Universities/Institutes having an MoU with CIAB, subject to the scholar’s tangible performance, promise, academic suitability, etc.

- All the positions are based at Mohali, Punjab, but some work may also be assigned to be carried out at outstations.
- The number of positions may vary.
- Relaxation of age for various categories (including women candidates) shall be as per the rules of DST and other Government of India agencies.
- If in any area no suitable candidate is found, no selection would be made in that case.
- Candidates found eligible after scrutiny of applications shall be required to appear before a Selection Committee through video-conferencing mode. Kindly note that in case there is a substantial number of applicants, the Chief Executive Officer, CIAB reserves the right to devise such criteria as deemed fit to shortlist the candidates for the interview. The decision of the CEO, CIAB shall be final and binding on all in this respect.
