Scientific Officer Vacancy: Job Description
The selected candidate will:
- The Scientific Officer Vacancy involves conducting scientific analysis of ancient art and archaeological materials, including ceramics, metals, stone, pigments, and other inorganic/organic substances.
- Operate, maintain, and calibrate scientific research instruments used in conservation laboratories (e.g., FTIR, XRF, optical microscopy, and other related equipment).
- Support ongoing research projects, teaching laboratories, and collaborative analytical studies within the Department.
- Assist in documentation, data management, and reporting of analytical results for research publication.
Eligibility for Scientific Officer Vacancy
- Essential Qualifications: MSc/PhD in a relevant scientific discipline such as Chemistry, Materials Science, Earth Sciences, etc. from a recognized university.
- Demonstrated experience in instrumental analysis (e.g., FTIR, XRF, and other spectroscopic methods; optical microscopy, scientific data interpretation and laboratory management).
- Strong computational abilities for data analysis.
- Desirable Qualifications: Relevant research experience as research assistant/associate.
- Peer-reviewed publications or technical reports in relevant areas of science, materials analysis.
- Familiarity with historic materials, art and cultural heritage.

Additional Information
- It is amply clarified that the above engagement will be purely casual/contractual initially for a period of three years, extendable for two more years subject to satisfactory performance. The engagement can be terminated on one month’s notice from either side. Under no circumstances will the Scientific Officer be considered as the Institute’s employee or may claim for regularization in future as the contractual arrangements are meant for only short-term engagements on projects.
