NIUS Chemistry 2026 | HBCSE-TIFR for BSc & Integrated MSc Students
NIUS Chemistry is inviting curious second-year undergraduate students to experience chemistry beyond textbooks through an intensive 10-day programme at Homi Bhabha Centre for Science Education, Mumbai. The HBCSE NIUS Chemistry Camp combines theoretical sessions, workshops, research-paper discussions, guided investigations and hands-on activities. The NIUS Chemistry 2026 application is open for eligible students, with the programme scheduled from December 21–30, 2026 and applications closing on September 30, 2026.
About NIUS Chemistry:
- NIUS Chemistry is part of the National Initiative on Undergraduate Science and aims to help students experience chemistry as a process of investigation rather than simply a collection of facts, equations and laboratory procedures.
- The programme encourages students to ask questions, design investigations, analyse experimental data, think critically and understand how observations are transformed into meaningful scientific conclusions.

Who Can Apply for NIUS Chemistry?
The NIUS Chemistry 2026 application is open to second-year undergraduate students pursuing any of the following programmes:
- B.Sc./B.Sc. (Hons.)/Integrated M.Sc./BS-MS
Students must have chemistry as one of their subjects/papers.
Applicants must also have:
- Class X: At least 60% marks or equivalent
- Class XII: At least 60% marks or equivalent
- First-Year Undergraduate Programme: At least 70% marks or equivalent CGPA
What Will Students Learn?
The HBCSE NIUS Chemistry Camp is designed to expose students to chemistry beyond the regular undergraduate curriculum. During the 10-day programme, participants will get opportunities to explore exciting areas of chemistry, read and discuss real research papers, investigate concepts through guided inquiry, design and understand experiments, analyse experimental data and determine what the results actually indicate. Rather than simply following experimental procedures, NIUS Chemistry emphasizes questioning, investigation, critical thinking and independent scientific reasoning.
Key Activities at the Camp:
- explore exciting areas of chemistry beyond the usual undergraduate curriculum;
- read and discuss real research papers;
- investigate chemical concepts through guided inquiry;
- design and understand experiments rather than simply follow recipes;
- analyse experimental data and decide what the data actually tell you; and
- learn how chemists turn observations into meaningful conclusions.
Travel, Food & Accommodation:
- Selected outstation students will receive reimbursement for to-and-fro travel up to a maximum of III AC train fare.
- Food and accommodation at the HBCSE Hostel will be provided to all participants during the camp.
- These provisions make NIUS Chemistry more accessible to eligible undergraduate students selected from outside Mumbai.
