Job Description
R&D Chemist position at Sherwin-Williams is accountable for contributing to the assessment, development, reformulation, quality maintenance, and enhancement of products. This includes planning, executing, and analyzing experiments to yield clear and accurate results. Under general supervision, the R&D Chemist conducts chemical studies and experiments on organic and
inorganic compounds and materials, requiring technical knowledge and skills in various projects related to company research, production, or operation. Effective communication is essential at all stages of a project, ensuring clarity in both written and verbal formats.Responsibilities
- Contributes to solving problems and maintaining products/processes.
- Designs, executes, and analyzes experiments using known principles and procedures.
- Organizes materials by gathering ingredients and preparing for application processes.
- Maintains a traceable history of analysis for accessibility and understanding.
- Develops basic technical knowledge of the company and industry.
- Learns problem-solving and decision-making skills.
- Manages workload through planning, execution, analysis, and documentation of results.
- Operates under supervision while adhering to safety and security regulations.
- Maintains a clean work area in line with lab requirements for 5S.
Eligibility Criteria
- Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, or Science.
- Knowledge of paint formulation and raw materials evaluations is preferred.
- 1-2 years of experience working in a laboratory environment.
- Demonstrates knowledge of instrument capabilities and limitations.
- Has broad awareness of the paint industry, including market trends and competitors.
- Preferred: 3-5 years of formulating experience in coatings.
Required Skills
- Basic mathematics skills, including proficiency in conversions.
- Demonstrates statistical analysis required for method development.
- Maintains computer efficiency and proficiency in using Excel, Microsoft Word, and PowerPoint.
- Exhibits problem-solving abilities and technical creativity.
- Demonstrates strong interpretation skills.
