Job Overview

IIT Bombay Recruitment 2026 invites applications for Junior Research Fellow (JRF) and Senior Research Fellow (SRF) under an Anusandhan National Research Foundation (ANRF-DST) sponsored project in the Department of Chemical Engineering. This IIT Bombay Vacancy focuses on Assay Chemistry & Reagent Development for Point-of-Care Diagnostics, offering an exciting Chemical Sciences Job for candidates interested in analytical

chemistry, biochemistry, biomedical engineering, and medical device research.

The selected candidate will contribute to developing innovative diagnostic platforms capable of performing multiple blood tests from a single drop of blood using advanced clinical chemistry and optical technologies.

Emoluments:

Junior Research Fellow (JRF)

  • Qualifications required: Post Graduate Degree in Basic Science OR Graduate/Post Graduate Degree in Professional Course selected through a process described through any one of the following: Scholars are selected through National Eligibility Tests – CSIR-UGC NET, including lectureship (Assistant Professorship) and GATE. Selection process through national-level examinations conducted by Central Government Departments and their Agencies and Institutions such as DST, DBT, DAE, DOS, DRDO, MoE, ICAR, ICMR, IIT, IISc, IISER, NISER, etc.
  • Revised Emoluments per month: Rs. 37,000/-

Senior Research Fellow (SRF)

  • Qualification: prescribed for JRF with two years of research experience
  • Revised Emoluments per month: Rs. 42,000/-

A.1 After completion of two years, an external assessment by the Institution where the student is enrolled for Ph.D. is mandatory for upgradation from JRF to SRF. The fellow may be awarded SRF after successful assessment.

A.2 Annual Satisfactory Assessment is mandatory to continue the benefit of fellowship during SRF period.

Research Associate

Research associates may be fixed at a consolidated amount depending upon the qualification and experience, decided by the Institute/Organization concerned. The Essential Qualification (EQ) for RA is as follows: Ph.D./MD/MS/MDS or equivalent degree or having 3 years of research, teaching and design and development experience after MVSc/M.Pharm/M.E/M.Tech with at least one research paper in a Science Citation Index (SCI) journal.

  • Research Associate – I: Rs. 58,000/-
  • Research Associate – II: Rs. 61,000/-
  • Research Associate – III: Rs. 67,000/-

Service Conditions:

  • DA: JRFs, SRFs, and Research Associates will not be entitled to DA.
  • House Rent Allowance (HRA): All research fellows may be provided hostel accommodation wherever available. Eligibility for HRA will follow Central Government norms.
  • Medical Benefits: Entitled to a medical allowance as per the implementing institute.
  • Leave and other entitlements: JRFs/SRFs are eligible for Casual leave, while Research Associates are entitled to leave as per host institution rules.
  • Participation in scientific events/workshops is treated as “on duty” with due approval.
  • Bonus & Leave Travel Concession: Not entitled to these allowances.
  • Retirement Benefits: Not entitled to these benefits.
  • Publications/Patents: Work results must acknowledge Government of India assistance.
