About the Role:
This PhD Chemistry Job at Wiley Career is for the Assistant Editor role, responsible for managing manuscripts throughout the editorial lifecycle. The role includes screening submissions, coordinating peer review, making editorial decisions, and ensuring research integrity. Candidates will work
with global authors, reviewers, and editorial teams. This Assistant Editor position is based in Noida or Pune with a hybrid work model and offers exposure to top-tier scientific journals.Key Responsibilities:
- Screen new manuscript submissions for scope, scientific quality, originality, and research integrity
- Make initial editorial decisions and provide clear, constructive decision rationales in line with journal policies
- Identify and escalate potential ethical or integrity concerns using established procedures
- Select, invite, and manage peer reviewers to ensure timely and high‑quality reviews
- Evaluate reviewer reports and make editorial decisions (accept, reject, revise, or refer)
- Assess revised manuscripts and author responses to determine next steps
- Recommend suitable alternative journals within the portfolio when appropriate
- Commission articles, special issues, and invited content aligned with the journal’s strategy
- Engage subject‑matter experts to contribute reviews, commentaries, and other commissioned content
- Track and manage invited content pipelines and contributor communications
- Analyze editorial performance data to identify trends and improvement opportunities
- Collaborate with senior editors and editorial teams to share knowledge and best practices
- Participate in training and development to build proficiency in editorial systems and workflows
Qualifications:
- PhD in a relevant academic discipline
- Postdoctoral research experience preferred
- Subject‑matter expertise in one or more of the following areas:
- Physical Sciences (Chemistry, Materials Science, Physics, Mathematics)
- Engineering & Technology
- Life Sciences (Agricultural, Biological, or Biomedical Sciences)
- Health Sciences (Medicine, Mental Health, Nursing, Oncology)
- Social Sciences (Psychology, Education, Sociology)
- Experience with scholarly publishing or peer review as an author, reviewer, or editor
- International research experience outside the candidate’s home country is strongly preferred
- Strong analytical, decision‑making, and written communication skills
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and collaborate effectively with global stakeholders
- Demonstrated interest in science communication and continuous learning
