Junior Specialist – Colorants

Job Purpose

  • Support and carry out project lab activities in one or more of the following areas:
  • Screen raw materials in colorant formulations
  • Produces milled colorant formulations
  • Testing colorant formulations using the required processes
  • Development of the fundamental understanding of formulation technologies

Key Responsibilities

  • Evaluation of raw materials in colorants as per screening procedures. Plans the activities and ensures timely completion in line with the manager’s
  • Register and check the results in the required documents. Make sure all data & measurements are complete
  • Consistently and effectively communicate progress and issues, both verbally and in summaries for discussion with the line manager
  • Creates colorant dispersions
  • Carries out testing on dispersions, making reductions, applying paint, color measurements, and viscosity testing. Provides testing results to the Team Leader for evaluation. Lays down data from the experiments in lab notes and contributes to testing reports.
  • Executes various physical and analytical tests on the wet and dry paints and is capable of interpreting the results.
  • Works with the team leader to optimize and improve colorant performance and properties
  • Maintains lab equipment connected to colorant-making/testing activities
  • Oversees the requirements of materials and consumables for colorant making/testing activities
  • Chooses the most efficient ways to use and apply colorants and tries to minimize the amount of waste
  • Contributes towards a safe work environment by adhering to safe work practices in line with corporate HSE&S directives & guidelines to build a work culture driven by safety consciousness.

Level of Autonomy

Perform a variety of routine tasks, initially under close supervision, which provide experience and familiarization with formulation and application methods, practices, and programs. Work is prioritized regularly, generates plans with identification of key next steps, which are agreed and reviewed with the line manager.
