Pentair is currently seeking a Research and Development Scientist to join our Treatment Center of Excellence Department. The Treatment Technologies Innovation Center is focused on Research and Development in focus areas of Membranes, Filtration Media, Functional Materials, Functional Water, Disinfection and Sensors. In this role, the Research and Development Scientist would perform development of technology in one or more of these focus areas for Water Treatment products and prototypes to deliver enhanced performance and efficiency, as well as apply existing technologies to new applications. Position Summary

Pentair is currently seeking a Research and Development Scientist to join our Treatment Center of Excellence Department. In this role, the Research and Development Scientist would perform development of technology in one or more of these focus areas for Water Treatment products and prototypes to deliver enhanced performance and efficiency, as well as apply existing technologies to new applications

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Performs Water Treatment (filtration and separation), disinfection and sensors development and related performance tests on products & prototypes, utilizing test stands, and analytical instrumentation according to applicable Work Instructions (WIs) or experimental plans.
  • Develops and follows sample handling procedures and performs sample analyses using laboratory instrumentation.
  • Builds and tests prototypes to demonstrate proof of concept for new technologies.
  • Builds test stands and develops new WI as required to accomplish required experimental plans.
  • Accurately and neatly records all test data in laboratory record books and maintains well commented electronic data files. Performs statistical data analysis (plotting and graphing) and keeps records of calculations and data analysis in permanent record files.
  • Follows all laboratory Chemical Hygiene Plan safety provisions and facility safety policies. Consults Safety Data Sheets (SDS) before working with hazardous chemicals and knows location of and how to use safety equipment.
  • Prepares complete and accurate test reports based on data generated by testing and data analysis.
  • Uses test data to complete product and process validation reports.
  • Maintains laboratory instruments and test equipment. Reports any persistent problems with test equipment, lab instrumentation, or test methods. Develops new WIs and notifies Supervisor when existing WIs should be changed or updated.
  • Assists and instructs Lab and Engineering Technicians as required.
  • Contacts and arranges for outside testing services when necessary.
  • Collects and organizes data for upgrading lab instrumentation and analytical methods. Tests new analytical methods and methods adaptations when required.
  • Issues purchase order requests for required lab supplies or parts for test stand construction and maintains inventory of chemicals and lab supplies. Works with vendors to ensure lowest cost of purchased supplies.

Skills and Experience Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree (B.A., B.Sc., B. Eng., B. Tech.) or equivalent in Physics, Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, or Materials Science is required
  • Advanced degree (M.S., M. Tech, Ph.D.) preferred
  • 4+ years of experience in Research & Development or lab/test setting
  • Sensors, Activated Carbon, Adsorbents, and/or Filtration experience preferred
  • Specific Skills: Word, Excel, PowerPoint, MS Project, Outlook, JDE, Visio or similar
  • Fact-based problem solving and plan development
