JOB PURPOSE

Briefly describe the objectives of the job:

  • Apply process safety principles to generate process safety information package to support manufacturing campaigns
  • Analyze and recommend process safety information generated using tools such as DSC, RC1e, MIE, MIT, Carious tube, Vent Sizing, Phi-Tec, HAZOP, HAZAN, What-if analysis, PHA, Chetah etc.
  • Interact with customers, vendors, project leads, cross-functional teams in deploying process safety information across projects
  • Act as a subject matter expert in process safety area
  • Assist in implementing process safety guidelines across development and manufacturing environment
  • Provide process safety technical support to scale-up campaigns in kilo, pilot, and commercial manufacturing facilities
  • Introduce new technologies around process safety to the process research and development group including process engineering and manufacturing environment
  • Provide investigations support into process execution

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Lead and own the process safety data generated against each project both at development and manufacturing environment
  • Develop hazard assessment protocols and implement
  • Take ownership of deliverables produced & their quality
  • Write and review technical reports around process safety
  • Ensure appropriate checking & review of all process safety documents before release to scaleup group
  • Manage a team of 6 to 8 Sr. research associates /Associate scientists/Process safety engineers
  • Coordinate with the other Engineering disciplines, cross-functional teams, client and vendors
  • Interface with leads of PRD, Process engineering, process scaleup and production to reflect the as-on-date input on plan and progress, as applicable
  • Attend project review meetings
  • Problem solving and decision making
  • Assist HOD in all departmental/BU initiatives and functions
  • Responsible for change management and trend notifications

SECONDARY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Identify training needs of the team members
  • Keep HOD informed on progress of project with agreed periodicity
  • Escalate resource / infrastructure issues / concern areas that implicate the development process, to the right team leads appropriately

EDUCATIONAL QUALIFICATION & EXPERIENCE

  • Ph.D in Chemical Engineering (1-3 years of exp.) or M.Tech/M.E/M.S in chemical engineering ( 4 to 6 years of exp.) or B.Tech/B.E in chemical engineering (8 to 10 years of exp.) in process safety area
  • Established capability to lead a team, and exposure to activities/projects of similar nature & scale
  • Must possess process safety and engineering skills such as generating, analyzing and recommending the data from DSC, RC1e, MIE, MIT, Carious tube, Vent Sizing, Phi-Tec, HAZOP, HAZAN, What-if analysis, PHA, Chetah etc.
  • Strong skills with common workplace software (word processor, spreadsheet, database, etc)
  • Ability to communicate ideas with cross-functional teams and coordinate
  • Able to work with little or no guidance or support to manage day-to-day activities
  • Candidate should be result-oriented, highly motivated team member

TECHNICAL /FUNCTIONAL SKILLS

  • Experience in working in a laboratory environment
  • Experience in generating, analyzing and recommending actions from the data of DSC, RC1e, MIE, MIT, Carious tube, Vent Sizing, Phi-Tec, HAZOP, HAZAN, What-if analysis, PHA, Chetah etc.
  • Experience in developing mass and heat balances
  • Experience in identifying safety challenges around the processes and suggest mitigation approaches
  • Experience in supporting or leading PRA/PHA and HAZOP activities
  • Strong orientation towards quality, safety, Data integrity, compliance and continuous improvement
  • Exposure towards global projects/clients working with cross-functional teams across geographical locations
