Master of Science (M. Sc.) in Chemistry

Objectives of the Position

Laboratory executive who will synthesize research chemicals with complete adherence to all BASF rules and regulations

Main Tasks

(1) Project management:

• Chemical Reaction planning & implementation.
• Precise ELN documentation as per the protocol agreed upon.
• Literature/Patent search; Proposing new ideas/solutions for critical synthetic problems
• Effective to & fro communication with stake holders such as Team leads, Analytical team, Procurement etc to timely address & resolve the issues.
• Ensure confidentiality of all research activities as per communicated protocols.

(2) Additional Responsibilities in lab:

Support in maintaining the instruments & chemicals inventory to the best possible conditions & follow discipline
At least one responsibility per chemist such as looking after instruments rotavaps, vacuum

pump, balance, inventory, solvents, combiflash, other lab activities etc…

(3) Safety:

• Following all safety norms as per BCIPL lab safety manual and all relevant SOPs
• Reading MSDS for all reagents/ solvents prior to ordering & setting-up of the reaction and discussing the same with team lead for any safety hazards.
• Demonstrate a proactive behavior in safety and actively drive safe behavior.
• Compliance with corrective actions in safety incident reports
  Any issue/incident (even if there is a doubt on safety relatedness) needs to be addressed to the concerned TL (or his/her deputy) as and when it happens.
• Reporting more genuine unsafe condition to increase safety awareness & keeping good housekeeping of fume hoods

1. What experience do you have in synthetic chemistry?

Answer: I have an MSc degree in Chemistry and have completed various research projects in synthetic chemistry during my academic years. I have also worked on synthesis of various organic molecules during my internship at XYZ lab.

2. Can you describe your experience in project management?

Answer: During my academic years, I have worked on various research projects and have been responsible for project management. I have planned and executed chemical reactions, maintained laboratory records, and communicated effectively with team members to address and resolve any issues that arise.

3. How do you ensure safety in the laboratory?

Answer: I follow all safety protocols and relevant SOPs. I read MSDS for all reagents and solvents prior to ordering and setting up reactions, and discuss any safety hazards with my team lead. I also actively participate in safety incident reports and address any issues or incidents immediately.

4. How do you manage and maintain laboratory instruments and inventory?

Answer: I support in maintaining instruments and chemicals inventory to the best possible conditions and follow discipline. I also look after instruments such as rotavaps, vacuum pumps, balances, and combiflash. Additionally, I manage the inventory of solvents and other lab activities.

5. How do you keep up to date with the latest research and chemical reactions?

Answer: I keep myself updated by reading the latest literature and patents in the field, attending workshops and training programs, and engaging in discussions with other chemists and researchers. I also propose new ideas and solutions for critical synthetic problems to stay informed and ahead of the curve.
