Eligibility Criteria:

• Bachelor’s degree in Chemical Engineering
• Chemical-based manufacturing – applying chemistry for commercial-quantity production of a wide variety of products including (but not limited to) petrochemicals, industrial chemicals, plastics, etc.
• Demonstrated advanced use of Microsoft Office products
• Strong written and oral communication skills to appropriate level units
• Strong interpersonal skills to appropriate levels within the sponsoring business units
• Team player, working well in a collaborative setting
• Acts as a resource to colleagues with less experience
• The flexibility of support times when necessary

Preferred

• FAA Airframe and Powerplant (A&P) Licenses
• Ability to communicate to team members and contractors who come from a broad spectrum of disciplines
• Can conform to shifting priorities, demands, and timelines through analytical and problem-solving capabilities
• Ability to effectively prioritize and execute tasks in a high-pressure environment
• Ability to elicit cooperation from a wide variety of sources, including upper management, clients, and other departments
• Ability to bring the project to successful completion through political sensitivity
• Adept at conducting research into project-related issues and products
• Successful management of medium size Material and Process organization

Technical Operations/Maintenance

Technical Operations include the maintenance and overhaul of our aircraft. This includes aircraft maintenance technicians, engineers, planners, ground equipment and facilities teams, supply chain teams, and more.

Job overview and responsibilities

Seeking a Chemical Engineer to support the Technical Operations team at United Airlines. Major activities, not limited to, include:

• Develop engineering authorizations in support of chemical data reviews for implementation in company requirements manuals, databases, etc.
• Includes airworthiness analysis, policy changes, updating product information, answering company queries, developing alternates for expired products, resolving efficacy issues, managing shelf-life variations & process engineering manuals.
• Includes multiple UA organizations (Engineering, Data Management, Purchasing, Quality Assurance, Supply Chain, etc.) as well as external (suppliers, original equipment manufacturers (OEMs), etc.
• Support the chemical analysis for the manufacturing processes (e.g. plating shop) as needed
• Facilitate requests for chemical orders and shelf-life issues
  Manage shipping inquiries over properly labeled packages and kit constituents

HAZMAT

• Update and control all HAZMAT requests through Chemical Database (CDB) record as applicable to IATA Dangerous Goods Regulations.
• Perform emergency approvals (e.g. aircraft can’t fly) for U-ship orders. (HAZMAT review)
• Respond to numerous requests for hazardous shipping products and update CDB records after OEM document audits.
• Manage TSCA Forms (Toxic Substance Control Act)

Chemical Database Management

• Added/revised/deleted chemical products
• Review vendor specification updates and implements as necessary
• Sole contact for outside vendors to approve new interior/exterior coatings, aircraft cleaners, hand sanitizers, insecticides, etc.
• Work in concert with Corporate Safety and Environmental Programs departments to review the technical and airworthiness aspects of all aircraft chemicals
