Be a key enabler on the safe use of chemicals as a Chemical Safety Specialist of our HazCom (Hazard Communication) team. The team authors and manages up-to-date, compliant, and comprehensive safety documents for our Philips and non-Philips customers. Proper safety documentation is key and of crucial importance along the supply chain, enabling proper safety communication on the safe use and transport of hazardous materials and dangerous goods. This will be in line with global regulations and hence requires a broad understanding of the applicable legislation.

Job Title: Chemical Safety Data Specialist

Job Requirements/Skills:

  • A Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in chemistry, toxicology, or a comparable discipline
  • Min. 5 years of profound experience and expertise in international Regulatory/Compliance processes & organizations
  • Experience and skilled with PLM/PDM, ERP systems, and Microsoft office
  • Excellent communications skills in English.
  • A conscientious mind and structured way of working with a strong affinity towards achieving and maintaining regulatory compliance.
  • Customer focus and result-driven mindset
  • Consulting and relation management skills or the affinity to develop those as an expert
  • Ability to think and act outside regular boundaries in order to provide pragmatic solutions

You are a part of

the Environment, Health & Safety (EH&S) department of Philips Innovation Services (PInS). With a total staff of nearly 800 employees PInS ‘Makes Innovation Work’. In EH&S approximately 25 highly qualified professionals work from four competence fields (Health & Safety, Radiation Protection, Hazard Communication and Sustainability) and define, implement and execute EH&S solutions and services for our customers.

The HazCom team of 10 experts author and maintain a large product database of internal Safety Documents (iSD), Safety Data Sheets (SDS), and workplace Instruction Cards, based on carefully validated substance data, which our customers can access online 24/7. They furthermore provide advice on REACH related topics such as Poison Control Center Notification and C&L notifications. Additional long-term expertise lies in the area of chemical safe use and transport of hazardous materials and Dangerous Goods, with a focus on IATA, IMDG, ADR, and DOT.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manual hazard classification of substances and mixtures to global requirements (inc. EU, North American, and Asian requirements)
  • Conversion of SDS into required languages and the addition of local requirements (e.g. Occupational Exposure Limits, Poison Centers) using internal SDS authoring software
  • Manage the Safety Data Sheets (SDS) portfolio of Philips, from SDS creation to their distribution in the supply chain.
  • Review the hazardous classification and Safety Datasheets of products in accordance with CLP regulations
  • Manage responses to customer inquiries regarding product safety and regulatory compliance.
  • Develop datasets to support advanced analytics, reporting, and data visualization
  • Support the development, improvement, and implementation of relevant internal processes and in-house training.
