Project Synopsis

Development of palladium-catalyzed triple cascade reaction to have very efficient access of tetracyclic core of Apocynaceae family of indole alkaloids. The major objectives are:

Objectives

  • To develop a palladium-catalyzed domino reaction for the synthesis of tricyclic core using 1,2-dihalocyclohexene utilizing domino N-H/C-H bond functionalization.
  • To extend this methodology for the development of the triple cascade to synthesize tetracyclic core of Apocynaceae family of alkaloids.
  • Application of the double/triple cascade reaction in the total synthesis of Apocynaceae family of indole alkaloids.
  • A detailed mechanistic study utilizing modern experimental techniques to understand the reaction mechanism in detail.
  • To study biological activities of the Apocynaceae family of indole alkaloids.
    Nature of work

Identification of new target molecules showing anti-viral activity against Flaviviridae, Flaviviruses, pestiviruses, and hepaciviruses. Discovery of new molecules, which can be used for the treatment of dengue fever, yellow fever, west nile virus, and hepatitis C virus. First part involve the development of an efficient synthetic strategy applying transition metal-catalyzed cascade reaction to synthesize a library of compounds and the second part involves evaluation of the biological activity of these compounds.

Essential and Desirable Qualifications

  • The candidate should have a Master’s degree (with a minimum of 55% marks or equivalent grade) in Chemistry (Organic/Inorganic) from a UGC recognized University or Institutions.
  • The candidate should have good analytical and communication skills. Familiarity with organic synthesis and characterizations will be preferred.
  • Understanding of reaction mechanism of organic and organometallic reactions is desirable.
  • Candidates with CSIR/UGC-NET/JEST/GATE are encouraged to apply.
    Duration of the Project

1 year (purely temporary), can be extended further based on satisfactory performance in the first year.

Fellowship

As per DST norms, fellowship is ₹31,000/- p.m. plus HRA for JRF

How To Apply:

Eligible and interested candidates should submit their application with a complete CV (having personal and academic details, academic qualifications, research experiences, publications, name, affiliation, and email address of at least two referees) to Dr. Ajoy Kapat ([email protected]). The copies of mark sheets/ testimonials/ certificates, a recent passport size photograph, and other relevant documents are also required.
