CSIR-UGC NET

The Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR) is a leading R&D establishment in India. They conduct joint CSIR-UGC NET, a national level computer-based test, for Junior Research Fellowship (JRF) and Assistant Professor or

Lectureship (LS) in India for NTA. The exam is 3 hours with objective questions for 200 marks. JRF is one of the crucial criteria for Ph.D. admissions in India.

  • Aptitude: Candidates should possess a degree or while pursuing BTech/Integrated BS-MS/M.Sc. in chemistry or allied subjects with at least 55% aggregate score. The age limit for candidates is 28 or below.
  • Dates to be noted: The test is usually conducted two times annually especially during the months of June & December.

GATE

Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE) is another computer-based national entrance test conducted for Doctoral and Master aspirants. This is undertaken with a collaborative effort from the seven IITs and IISc on behalf of the Government of India, Ministry of Education, Department of Higher Education, and National Coordination Board-GATE. The exam duration is 3 hours with MCQs and numerical answer type questions for 100 marks.

  • Aptitude: Candidates should possess a degree or in their final year in BTech/MTech/M.Sc./Integrated BS-MS in Chemistry. No age limit for this exam. Indian students along with students from UAE, Ethiopia, Sri Lanka, Singapore, Nepal, and Bangladesh are eligible for the exam.
  • Dates to be noted: GATE examinations are held once a year during the first or second week of February. 2021 GATE is to be held from 5-14 of February.

CUCET

Central Universities Common Entrance Test (CUCET) is a national offline exam conducted for entrance in UG, PG, and Ph.D. programs, jointly by 14 central universities. It is a two-hour examination. The test is of two parts with objective type questions.

Aptitude: Candidates should possess M.Sc. in Chemistry with 55% aggregate score / an equivalent B grade on UGC 7 point scale/ an equivalent degree from a foreign institute authorized by Assessment and Accreditation Agency.

Dates to be noted: This exam is conducted once a year. For 2021, the exam is proposed at the end of last week May and applications will commence from the end of March.

ICMR JRF

Indian Council of Medical Research Junior Research Fellowship (ICMR JRF) is for students aspiring to do Ph.D. programs. They are awarded grants to finish their coursework. Chandigarh’s Postgraduate Institute of Medical Education and Research carries out the above exam. Candidates who have passed the exam are eligible for Ph.D. from UGC/MCI recognized universities. It is an online-based exam.

Aptitude: Applicants should possess M.Sc. in Biochemistry with a minimum of 55% score. The age limit for this category is 28 years or below.

Dates to be noted: This exam is conducted annually. The dates are altered each year.

BET

Biotechnology Eligibility Test (BET) is a computer-based national level entrance examination for DBT-JRF for pursuing research in Life sciences and Biotechnology. This is applicable to any university/college in India. According to the test results, two categories are prepared and candidates enlisted in category-I can avail for fellowship.

Aptitude: Students should possess a degree in M.Sc./Integrated BS-MS/BTech/Mtech in Biochemistry with a minimum of 60% score. Students appearing for the final year examination can also apply for this PhD Chemistry entrance exam. The age limit for this exam is 28 years or below.

Dates to be noted: This exam is conducted annually, test month varies each year.

IIT JAM

Joint Admission Test for MSc (JAM) is a national computer-based test conducted on behalf of MHRD (Ministry of Human Resources Development), Government of India. 2021 test is conducted by IISc. IIT JAM has seven test papers with chemistry as one of the subjects. Qualified individuals are eligible for integrated Ph.D. programs in Chemical sciences at IITs and IISc. It is an online-based, 3 hours exam with MCQ, MSQ, and NAT questions.

Aptitude: Both Indian and foreign students with Bachelor’s in Chemistry, a minimum of 55% score can apply for the exam. There is no age limit. Final year students can also apply for this exam.

Dates to be noted: This exam is usually conducted by the first week of February each year. The exam for 2021 is on 14th February.

JGEEBILS

Joint Graduate Entrance Examination for Biology and Interdisciplinary Life Sciences (JGEEBILS) is an exam conducted by the Tata Institute of Fundamental Research. It is a 3 hours offline mode test.

Aptitude: Students should possess a degree in M.Sc./BTech/MTech in Chemistry. Students appearing for the final year examination can also apply.

Dates to be noted: The examination is usually held annually during the month of December.
