PhD Admission 2020 @ University of Calcutta -Chemistry & Pharma
Applications are invited for admission to the Ph. D. Program of the Department of Chemistry, CU. Candidates willing to pursue their research work, leading subsequently to Ph. D. (Sc.) Degree of the University of Calcutta should apply in the format given in the next page after paying Rs. 100/- in the University Cash Counter (as application fee for Ph. D. admission) through a challan obtainable from the Sales Counter at CU.
Eligibility Criteria
Subject to the conditions stipulated in these Regulations, the following persons are eligible to seek admission to the PhD programme:–
Candidates for admission to the PhD programme should have a Master’s degree or a degree declared equivalent to the Master’s degree by the corresponding statutory regulatory body of this University, with at least 55% marks in aggregate or its equivalent grade ‘B’ in the UGC 7-point scale (or an equivalent grade in a point scale wherever grading system is followed). A relaxation of 5% of marks, from 55% to 50%, or an equivalent relaxation
of grade, may be allowed for those belonging to SC/ST/OBC (non-creamy layer)/Differently-abled candidates. The eligibility marks of 55% (or an equivalent grade) and
obtained DST INSPIRE Fellowship /Teacher fellowship or have passed equivalent examinations or passed the M.Phil./ M.Tech / M.D/ M.E./ M.Pharm or equivalent examination, need to appear only at the interview, skipping the written test.
The candidates are asked to apply to the HOD, Chemistry, CU, within 10 days from the date of advertisement.
In this connection, a written MCQ examination of 1-hour duration will be held in the department on March 17, 2020, at 12 Noon. This will be based on B. Sc. (Hons.) and M. Sc. Syllabi of this University. Successful candidates will be called for an interview/counselling on the same day (17.03.2020) at 3:00 PM in the department. The final selection will be made on the basis of the overall performance of the candidates. At present, approximately a maximum of 35 students will be taken for the Ph. D. Program.
